Some videos does not Play on Android TV

Hello,

I have the problem that some video files i want to watch with android TV just show me a black screen and nothing happens. I already tried sideloading the normal android app but there is the same error.

On my mobile with the same app the Error does not occur and the movie starts instant. The only Workarround I found so far is to use an external Player Like VLC. With Jellyfin I never had this issues...

At Admin Dashboard. The Movie seems to play ant timer is moving. But after 10s it resets to Zero. The Screen on TV stays Black. With my mobile or computer I can play everthing.

If I use VLC player on my TV it is also playing...

There is no transcoding just direct play...

Then add the following information to your report in the forum:

  • Exactly what you were doing and what happened.  Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem
  • The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5)
  • The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time

Thanks.

You offer a paid service and don't provide a private support. There are already to much information in this forum that shouldn't be in public!

What is this for a c***?!?  I begin to ask myself why I'm still using emby... No support in jellyfin but community help is almost the same like this non private s*** here!

Hi.  None of the information requested above is personal in nature (in that it would lead to any sort of security issue).

Did you have a specific issue you need help with?

other users facing this issue too and the solution is to install an old version... Are you really trying to fix bugs at all?

And i dont want to provide all informations open for everyone online!

The app sends the logs to the same place for everyone.  They need the time and user details to enable them to pick the correct log from the pile to tie to your case.  The information they ask for is not a security issue in any way, but I believe they would accept it by PM if you prefer privacy.

Hi, you're welcome to send the requested information to us over private message. That would be perfectly fine. We're happy to help you resolve your issue.

I sent a private message to you including a video how I try to watch the movie and I also included the video file! Hopefully you are able to fix This problem now. As I mentioned before: this could be a problem with the internal emby player because external players are working.

I also installed the mobile Android App on  my android TV there is the same behavior. But on my mobile the movie is running...

Okay, there are no obvious errors in the log.  It looks like it is playing but I understand it isn't.  Your sample plays fine for me on my Android TV but I'm running the beta release of the app.

Can you please try installing that and testing?

Hi.  Are you posting under two different accounts?

yes sorry it was a mistake. I helped a family member to log in with emby-connect and I was still logged in with my mobile.
BTW: all videos that not work on my TV also dont work on my family members FireTV.

I installed the Beta you recommended and it still does not work

But if I install v2.0.55g all videos are playing... https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/blob/dc7d4cab06e23ccce521d13af713bd09ba0e4301/androidtv/app-google-release.apk

@Lukewhat makes v2.0.55g so special that there are no problems? Ther must be some changes with the internal player because VLC as external player is working.

That would be using a very old version of Exoplayer.

So if it is Exoplayer and not Emby directly are you still able to fix the problem?

First we have to discover exactly what the problem is.  it is only certain devices and/or environments that have an issue and we haven't determined it yet.  Your sample plays fine for me on all my devices.

Is there something else I could do to to identify the problem? I have small very development skills too...

Thanks but not that I can think of.  We need to be able to reproduce the problem in order to identify it.  It is also possible that it will get corrected in the meantime with a firmware update for your device.

I did this some days ago I did not remember the number but it was the latest Android APK from your page. I installed it with ADB. But it took longer to load the external VLC player in comparison to the android tv app. The video with the problems also did not load
