Will BIF files cause disks to spin up while browsing?

Hello,

I've added a SSD to my spinning disk pool and have set up file placement rules so that all files that are non-video types are placed there. The idea is to allow the disks, several of while sleep for hours at a time, to stay asleep even if someone is browsing the library.

Right now the BIF (video preview files) are still on the same disks as the video files, because presumably they'll only be retrieved once someone actually clicks play on a video. Is that right?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Nevermind, I answered this by watching file access while browsing. I need to offload the BIF files as well.

Yep - there is a post somewhere with this exact issue that I raised.

My solution was the same as yours - just offload all the files excl the media itself to the SSD - so not only faster, but the disk access is removed from the physical disk.
