my buddy is having issues playing HDR content on his LG TV

it used to work fine.  his kid watches Encanto almost daily.
used to play fine.
now it plays "very dark",  other HDR movies same thing.  only his TV.
LG app.

transcode log included for Venom. same issue.
color is correct, but everything is DARK.

HDR content on YouTube and Netflix play fine.

Transcoding handled by 2070 super,  works fine on my non HDR android devices over LTE.

movies are NOT DolbyVison

Hi, that’s odd. Can you provide an example log for the same video when it does succeed?

here are 2 :
one is direct play from local win 10 machine, emby theatre, hdr monitor

2nd is android app, note 10plus HDR, lowered bitrate transcode, over LTE

also i double checked both encanto and venom have not updated the video files since January.
sometimes my server upgrades movies...  sometimes the upgrade sucks.
not the case this time.

You have a bitrate limit set which is causing it to transcode, this may be causing you to lose HDR.

Did you always have the bitrate set at this rate, or was it previously higher?  What happens if you increase the limit above 12-15Mb/sec?

this TV is at a friends house, i dont have fiber. yes it always has a limit set outside of home network.
My 2070 super transcodes HDR just fine on all other tested devices, with and without bitrate limit set, inside and outside the home network.

How do you know these are preserving HDR after transcoding?

The Android-LTE log looks like it failed

19:32:48.531 [hevc @ 0x14aad00] decoder->cvdl->cuvidCreateDecoder(&decoder->decoder, params) failed -> CUDA_ERROR_OUT_OF_MEMORY: out of memory

Direct-Theatre-Local is done in SW, not HW transcoding - and it looks like a significant drop in size
