Emby Theater for macOS - 4K Direct Play lagging

Hello everyone,

Hope someone could help me here

I have a Mac Pro (Late 2013) - 6 core with 16 GB and AMD FirePro D300 playing Emby Theater

I have no issues playing 1080p, but if I start a 4K (Direct Play) the audio is correct, but the video is showing slower

I also noticed that if I enable the 3 options (actually disabled) in the attachement file, Emby ofter start the trascoding process, also if I'm using Emby Theater

It says 7 mbps for the video is the limit, but if I increase it, nothing changes

Is there anyway to fix both?

Thanks a lot,

Best regards! :)

Update: I tried playing the same mkv file on Elmedia Player

If I use hardware acceleration it will lag as Emby

if I disable the hw acceleration it works perfectly

Is there the same option on Emby Theater client (macOS) ?

Thanks a lot!

I experience huge lagging in the emby theater interface on MacOS when the global resolution is not set to the native one on my MacBook Pro. Try choosing the 'default' one instead of 'more space' may help your navigation experience. (It's not super-fluid either on default, but this setting helps).

Hello @Geckoand thank you for the answer

My issue at the moment is the huge lag in the stream, not in the interface

While with Elmedia Player is working correctly (with hw acceleration disabled)

Sounds like the GPU doesn't support 10 bit color depth, and GPU acceleration is being forced. You say it plays smoothly with no hardware acceleration. This would strongly suggest my hypothesis.  Is there no option in the settings to disable hardware acceleration? There should be!

Hello @generiq , yes I agree with you

Unlucky the only way I found out is to open the app from terminal using

open /Applications/Emby.app —args —disable-gpu

But is not working

I tried to looks into Emby options but didn't find it :(

Thanks a lot
