ID Tags in Folder & File Names

Emby can also read a Meta-Data ID from the name.

Format:

Name (Year) [tmdbid=xxxx]

Example:

Alone (2020) [tmdbid=509635]

Emby supports the following tags with the host website for lookup.

tmdbid  (https://www.themoviedb.org/)

imdbid  (https://www.imdb.com/)

tvdbid  (https://thetvdb.com/)

I was wondering would this also be causing the issue im having with "The Diplomat (2023)" There are 2 2023 shows called the Diplomat, i have both of them in my library with my old naming convention as i havent updated them to tvdbid=tvdbid yet, ive wathced 3 episodes of one and 0 of the other, however when emby syncs with trakt, it marks episode 3 of both of them as watched, ive checked trakt to make sure its not an issue on trakt, and trakt only has the correct episodes marked as watched, could this be because of the current naming emby as importing the playstates for one to both, even though both are correctly identified in emby?

What does your Edit Metadata dialog show under External IDs for both those TV shows and for incorrectly marked episode(s)?

They both have the correct TVDBID under series and episodes As well as the correct IMDBID for episodes

Then Luke might be interested in seeing your server log, I stay well clear of Trakt and anything related, plugin included.

However if i go to trakt

This is the show thats being marked as watched in emby when there are 0 watched episodes

 image.png.6f9eb09b02dbaed25496ebf098b920c2.png

As you can see it shows as collected but not watched in trakt.

And the one that does have the watched episodes is

image.png.6f3104ac568945df04ed3c7f16bc8301.png

And is correctly marked as watched, so im not sure why the trakt plugin is marking the first shows episodes as watched when they arent marked as watched in trakt

You'd get tick there only if series is fully watched - what watchstatus do individual episodes beneath show?

no it shows a tick when even only one episode is watched as the second show only has 3 episodes watched and it shows a tick, however individual episodes are all unticked

As you can see here

And then the other show which is correctly marked

this could however be an issue on trakts end that isnt showing on the webpage as for some reason its no longer showing the episodes as being collected and when i tried to collect them its now saying the show hasnt aired yet so it appears that trakt may be having some issues with the show on their database which isnt reflected on the frontend, not sure if those issues would be causing this through the api however

Tbh that makes no sense, what would be the point? Though, as said, long time since I've used Trakt, you've got my interest piqued, gonna check what do I see.

NGL im contemplating moving away from trakt completely and just using SIMKL as i dont like how trakt relies entirely on TMDB for data when TMDB has a history of being unreliable, however, trakt does have the better mobile app at the moment, and my sonarr/radarr instances rely on trakt list for adding shows automatically for me with the correct language etc as i hate dubs, i just have to add them to the correct trakt list

There are actually 3 statuses (or maybe more, but I don't have shows that would fall into other) for Watched on series level: Black background (even if few episodes watched, but minor percentage of total), dim purple background (partially watched series, don't know what's the threshold, from what I've surmised looking through some of those, I'd say 20-25ish %) and bright purple background (fully watched). Or maybe it's gradually going from black to bright purple according percentage watched?
