Just wondering if windows can go to sleep and still work as a emby server? RIght now i have it set to never sleep hard drives. the screen turns off after 15 mins.  Would emby just not work if the hard drive goes to sleep like it won't wake back up when someone try's to use emby software remote or on the network.?

The drives can sleep, the users will just experience a delay of a few seconds as they 'wake/spin up'.  Clearly if the server itself sleeps, then you need some form of 'wake on lan' to wake it up.

Also remember that emby may be doing scans/updates etc on the media - so the disk may not go to sleep anyway if they are being accessed (and not necessarily by emby).

So i need to find a way to sleep the drives but keep nvme ssd up and running.  I'm sure windows 11 pro has some way to do that. Really it doesn't matter  but if i could get the server to idle at 50 watts that would be nice. right now idle is 115 watts.  But i do have some good parts in this system

13600k

z790 asus strix

32gb ddr5 5600mhz

evga 800 watt plat psu

pioneer bluray ray drive

5 fans

2 12 tb mech drives

2 1tb nvme ssd gen 4

You have a performance system - K class CPU and Z790 chipset - simply put you are not going to be 'efficient' with that hardware...

Putting the drives to sleep will make very little difference - you'll maybe save 10-15 Watts tops.

I hate wasting money on cheap cut down parts.  K series with z790 should be able to to cut power just like the cheap stuff.   10-15 watts is huge when I'm trying to cut any amount of watts.      How hard is it to setup wake on lan with emby? I haven't ever setup a software to run like that yet.

I put windows 11 (with emby server) to sleep  and tried to wake it by going to emby app and went to options to "wake server".

I did not wake up and i couldnt connect to server with android app

That's not wake on lan though is it? Try using an actual WOL function, like a WOL app on your smart phone.
