Not really sure what else 2 add. Asustor does not really provide anything further. Same lag/freezing/jumping also appears with PGSSUB's but SRT's work well.

I guess the common denominator with the 2 that lag is that they are both embedded in the movie.

Your trying to play 4K HEVC file in Firefox, that doesn't natively support HEVC playback, hence transcoding is occurring. 

However, you have no HWA:

and that is with text subs - I can only imagine it being an order of magnitude worse with graphical subs. 

For browser playback you should think about using MS Edge with HEVC extension or Chrome/Chromium as you'd likely get DirectPlay there, use EMBY Theater client (requires Premiere subscription) or if you have transcoding requirements invest in better hardware.

I did that just for logging reasons.
It's same thing with HD movies on LG TV.

It's the embedding that seems to be the cause of problem.

Not all of us like MicroSnot products. I hope you never replace Emby on Asustor with that crap. Can you imagine MicroSnooze code running on top of Linux?
That gives me shivers. (Not the good kind.)

As said, without logs noone can divine solution or can only wild-guess what the reasons might be, but if I had to guess I'd say that's related to LG video player subtitle format support, generally limited to text-based subs, so your graphical subs need to be burned-in (which is very CPU-expensive process) and you're encountering same issue again: your server is simply not up to the task. Obtain external based srt subs (or select embedded text-based subs if available).

There's nothing to be replaced, Edge/Chrome/Chromium are client browsers and have nothing to do with Asustor server side, as is Emby Theater (available for Linux as well), client app running on the device of your choosing.

Took ~3min to "load" with English FORCED SUBRIP. Then TV quit and said "NO COMPATIBLE STREAM"

SRT subs only "load" about second or two and if the movie actually starts with SUBRIP/ASS/PGSSUB/DVDsub -  it will always lag.
Rewinding or going Forward is basically impossible.

Looks like your TV doesn't like even embeded text subs (and with that excessive number of internal subs I reckon you're bound to have issues even on a much more powerful system), hence:

your system is practically choked. 

Get rid of excess subs or, as you've already surmised and was advised above, use external srt subs.

Hi, in server transcoding settings try checking the box to allow on the fly subtitle extraction. It looks like you disabled it.
