Google Chrome cannot play 4K video sources

Recommended Posts

I feel that Google Chrome has not been able to play 4K video sources smoothly. Today, it stopped after a second of playback, but I saw that it was playing in the background. I don’t know why. Attach the log file to see if there is a solution. In addition, I would like to ask, if the external network TV client accesses the 4K HDR video source in the NAS, the network of the NAS has a 50M upload bandwidth, can it play smoothly? I tried KODI+EMBY, prompt: the source is too slow, the read rate is too low to play continuously.

In the meantime, considering that's an EAC3 audio, how does that same item play in MS Edge with HEVC extension installed?

Edit: Also, if you disable HWA, how does that compare?

After turning off hardware encoding and decoding, Google Chrome can play normally, but MS Edge playback is stuck. However, the CPU usage has changed to 100%.

Those were two distinct tests to make:

1) Install HEVC extension; leave HWA On; play in Edge

2) Disable HWA; play in Chrome

Because I need to play on the external network, I need to enable HWA. Then I install the HEVC extension. Is there any HEVC extension that I can recommend? Finally, I would like to ask, can emby solve this problem in the future, so that I can play it in Google Chrome?

HWA has nothing to do with playing over local or external network. Those were tests to narrow down whether it's your graphics card or ffmpeg implementation or browser itself causing issues.

Once you determine where the problem lies - maybe yes maybe no, as it doesn't have to be related to Emby but to browser HEVC/EAC3/AC3 support. From your description it is very hard to distinguish what were you doing at which point and with which settings.

Well, anyway, now we have found a way to play it, I will study it later when I have time....Thank you.

On thing you can try is changing your decoder order with CUVID at the top.  There are several topic on one working vs the other per setup.

>>>>>>  Hardware Decoders for hevc
        [X] NVDEC NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 - H.265 (HEVC)
        [X] DX11VA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 - H.265 (HEVC)
        [X] CUVID NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 - H.265 (HEVC)

I know it is not beta version but looks like the same issue.

I used your suggestion and put "CUVID" in the preferred position, now I can play 4K-H265 video in google chrome, thank you so much
