audio channels over limit?

I have a 5.1 audio system.  If I tell ATV, in Playback settings > Audio, to convert unsupported audio to Digital Dolby, and my file has AAC 5.1, stats tells me it is delivering 7.1 channel audio to my system and shows a conversion reason of "Audio channels over limit".  This does not compute with me.  Can someone explain?

Devs will have to comment but the log shows aac 5.1 conversion to ac3 5.1.

&aac-audiochannels=2
&TranscodeReasons=AudioChannelsNotSupported

Log shows conversion to 5.1

-c:v:0 copy -bsf:v:0 h264_mp4toannexb -c:a:0 ac3 -ab:a:0 256140 -ar:a:0 48000 -ac:a:0 6

10:42:22.311 Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1, fltp, 256 kb/s (default)

Okaaayyy.  What is Emby stats telling me?  7.1 channels shouldn't even be in the equation, but it is.  Is Emby saying it needs to send 7.1 or that it thinks I have 7.1?

Why the overlimit error?

Actually, Happy, doesn't it show that Emby thinks it is stereo source?

Oh, I get the error now:  2 + 5.1 = 7.1!  🤣

No that is client playback protocol saying it can only handle 2 channel aac.  Since your track is more than 2 channels you will get "Audio channels over limit".

&aac_latm-audiochannels=8&mp4a_latm-audiochannels=8&ac3-audiochannels=8&eac3-audiochannels=8&trueHD-audiochannels=8&dts-audiochannels=8&dca-audiochannels=8&dtshd-audiochannels=8&aac-audiochannels=2&mp3-audiochannels=8

I guess the question is why your system shows limited to 2 channel aac as I have seen others logs showing 8 but can only guess as I am not a Android user but may have to do with client settings.

It's not an error. One reason could be if you enabled the audio down mix option in the app.

Confused on where this comes from though as there is nothing in the ffmpeg log for this.

Is the client changing the converted ac3 5.1 also?

Hi.  That's telling you the reason it is converting which is this:

Most devices will not accept multi-channel AAC so the app is doing what you asked it to do.

As for why it says it is delivering 7.1, I'm not sure,  That information is coming from the transcoding information the app gets from the server so something must be off there.

@Luke I can't have down mix set and convert unsupported at the same time.

So, if you can put this bug on your board, it would be appreciated.

Put what back on the board? Didn't ebr answer your question?

You mean you took it off the board once already?  LOL

The errant information needs to be resolved -> Emby says it is sending 7.1 audio.

ebr explained why Emby is transcoding, but he could not explain the above.

Yes the 7.1 is a mystery.

But do not know what 63 represents here.
