"V" TV series... Emby is confused

I finally tracked down all the versions of the "V" TV series. There are four separate series:

V (1983), 1 season, 2 episodes, IMDb id tt0085106, folder name "V (1983)"

V: The Final Battle (1984), 1 season, 3 episodes, IMDb id tt0086823, folder name "V The Final Battle"

V (1984 - 1985), 1 season, 19 episodes, IMDb id tt0086822, folder name "V (1984)"

V (2009 - 2011), 2 seasons, 23 episodes, IMDb id tt1307824, folder name "V (2009)"

When I added all four series to Emby and scanned the files, the only series that show up are the last two (1984-85 and 2009-11). When I look at the folders, the folders for the first two (1982 and Final Battle) do have tvshow.nfo files. But the IMDb ids in those files are tt0086822, the id for the 1984-85 series.

Is there any way to resolve this so that Emby will recognize and show all four series?

V (TV Series 1983-1983) — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org)

TVDB has them as specials within V (1984)

V - Aired Order - Specials - TheTVDB.com

TVDB has them as specials within V (1984)

These will provider data issues as they only exist separately via TMDB.

These two should be fine.

You have to decide if you want them separate then you will probably need to add providerid to naming.

V (1983) [imdbid=tt0085106] or V (1983) [tmdbid=14141]

V: The Final Battle (1984) [imdbid=tt0086823] or V: The Final Battle (1984) [tmdbid=75896]

I didn't know that was a thing. Worked perfectly. Thanks so much, I'm sure I'll need that trick again.

Okay, it almost worked. The Final Battle is showing up now. But I've tried the 1983 version with:

V (1983) [imdbid=tt0085106]
V [imdbid=tt0085106]
V (1983) [tmdbid=14141]
V [tmdbid=14141]

It doesn't show up with any of those folder names. The tvshow.nfo file has the correct ids. It's late, I'm going to give up for tonight and try again tomorrow.

For me personally I group the 80's mini series stuff into the specials of the main (1984 - 1985) series via TVDB (same cast & story line).

The (2009 - 2011) series is totally different story/cast and need's to be separate.

But if you want them to all show as there own series that's totally up to you. 👍 Make it so... ;)

You need to put TMDB as your top preferred meta-provider in your library settings, delete tvshow.nfo, scan media library, lock the item afterwards, revert preferred meta-providers to TVDB on top.

Yea, nice one. That's the go, I've used this trick for actors/images before (tvdb is strange with animation actor images) 👍

I think it was @GrimReaper that solved that for me back then. :)

Thanks, I'll try that next time.

Let us know how you get on. Thanks.

I ended up putting the two series under the "V (1984) folder as "V The Original Series" and "V The Final Battle", and Emby was just fine with that.

@MasterGreyI added the original V (two mini-series and one season of episodic content) to my library by including the mini-series as specials in the series folder V (1983). All content was scraped properly from TVdb with this setup, both min-series as specials in a "Specials/Season 0" folder and the 19 Season 1 episodes in a "Season 1" folder.

The original mini-series was S00E01-E02. The Final Battle was S00E03, S00-04 and S00E05.

Yes, absolutely and I thought I did that already. :(

I checked and it's there for movies.

I'll get this updated later today.

Hello, I would share with community my config for this serial :

- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 1 / S00E01 - Part 1 (1983)
- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 1 / S00E02 - Part 2 (1983)
- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 2 / S00E03 - Part One (1984)
- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 2 / S00E04 - Part Two (1984)

- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 2 / S00E05 - Part Three (1984)
- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 3 / S01E01
- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 3 / S01E02
- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 3 / S01E03
- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 3 / .....
- V - La Série (1984) / Saison 3 / S01E19

(from memory) I had apply a right click on base folder of the serial / Identifier -> fill ID theTVDB : 76354 -> search and select the only one result found.

It allow me to have this render in emby (see attachs)

My last problem now is to access to database to remove duplicate links.

I think remove all excessive episode in "Saison 1" to keep an organisation as 3 seasons.

Someone can help me to edit the database ?

(if I use the "delete option", it will remove duplicate link but also files in file system)

Thanks all.

EDIT : My emby server is installed on an asustor

You can specify the TVDB id in the folder name by adding "[tvdbid=76354]".

And of course Emby's confused - you've got file names specifying a different season from the enclosing folders, and season folders that don't exist in TVDB.  In particular, if you put an episode with "s00e" into a season folder, it will typically also be shown in a Specials folder.  I can see what you're trying to do, but in practice this will be extremely unstable in Emby, and any apparent solution is liable to break again as Emby develops - it's happened to me when I tried to override the system design...

A good solution for your next developments, it's to have another id, "emby id" where emby team solve specific (and rare) problem as "V" for example.

But here, I dont know how to edit local database of emby. Do you know how can I do ? (i use asustor sever)

Thanks.
