Login issues

I'm having trouble logging in from a Roku Streaming Stick 4K. I can connect via PIN through https://emby.media/pin. Then when I select "Connect to server" then click on the username on the Select Server screen, I just get an endless spinning wheel. If I try a manual connection, I get the error in the attached screen shot "We're unable to connect right now...-60: SSL certificate problem :unable to get local issues certificate"

I have a valid certificate issued by GoDaddy. I can login fine on the iOS app or via a browser. I've attached the Emby logs.

This is a model 3820X - Streaming Stick 4K running 11.5.0 build 4312Embyserver.txt.pdf -CU.

Thank you.

Hi.  Make sure the remote address shown on your dashboard is using the domain name for which your certificate is issued.

If you manually enter the server address, does it connect then?

It is the same address. I tried manually entering the domain name (https://domain) and port and that's when I get the "-60" error.

You can possibly omit the port number.

Host: "https://yoursite.com"
Port: "00000"

Doing the above will let your domain redirect to the proper port. Maybe that is the problem?

I tried putting in the domain name preceded by https:// and using 0000 for the port. I tried the domain name without "https://" and I tried basically every combination I could think of but nothing worked. I tried logging out of Emby Connect and logging in with PIN again and I can login but, again, when I try to connect after logging in I just get a spinning wheel and the log just shows the same errors as the one I previously uploaded. I tested the connection from a Samsung smart TV in the same home and it works fine. I'm not sure what else to try.

Hi.  That error implies to me that the Roku does not trust the certificate.  You said you got it through GoDaddy?

The Roku stick in question is at my sister's home where I was spending the holidays, so I can't test it. I will see if I can get my sister to try it.

I am having the exact same problem. Digicert certificate, certificate is valid, I am able to connect with laptop fine, but roku gives me the error mentioned above.

@Robert Smith are you sure your certificate hasn't expired?

Hi ebdr, how can I tell if it is trusted by the device? I am happy to share my server ip and one of you guys can look at the cert.

Hi.  Are you still getting that original error indicating a certificate problem?  That would indicate the Roku does not trust it.

Yes still getting the same problem. If Roku does not trust it, then how do I fix the issue?  I have no issues with Roku trusting certificates on Plex. In platforms other than roku, it logs me off and then it hangs sinning trying to get it.  I hate comparing platforms, there is so much that I love about Emby but not being able to connect reliably is a problem.  There are many other posts in the forum about similar issues and it always comes down to someone elses fault.  But here is the thing, Plex got that part right, connecting is not a problem.  Perhaps the emby team needs to spend some time perfecting basic functionality.  You could be 100 percent correct hat Roku is the problem, but not looking for a way to overcome what ever is causing roku to complain is not the right solution.

Hi.  Yes, when you force people to go through your central servers to access theirs, then that gives you a lot of control over how connections happen.  We chose not to take that route which does put more responsibility on the individual installation.  We are always searching for ways to make this easier - without taking complete control of your connections and users.

Thanks.

I have certs though letsencrypt, and never had a problem there. However, running apache (and a reverse proxy), in any Emby app outside my home (roku included), people have to make the port 0000. I think using 443 also works, but that was many many moons ago. I use Google domains, and dynamic DNS so your experience may vary. IIRC no matter what I did, Google redirected my domain to either 80 (http) or 443 (https) no matter what you did with ports in the address. So can't use ports. And it's better anyway, my reverse proxy handles the ports, and all anyone has to remember is https://emby.mydomain.net and they are golden. Plus no open ports on my router. But the trick is using 0's or 443 in the port number (if your using certs).

Just dropping this here as this title could get lots of hits when searching.

The Roku in question is at my sister's home and she reports that she is able to login. I have no issue with the Roku Ultras in my home. Thanks.
