Hey,

when im watching a channel with 720p, than emby does "direct play" the stream. But if I am streaming a 1080i channel, Emby starts to transcode it cause deinterlacing.

I am using the Embyapp on my ShieldTV Pro 2019...I set it up, that it should direct play a channel and also i checked the "copy stream" option. But it seems that those options getting ignored.

Am I doing something wrong? I dont want to use transcoding when I am watching TV. Not on local network and not when I am not at home.

(But if I am watching a Movie, e.g. a 4k-Movie with Atmos sound, than i want to transcode when I am not at home)

PS: When I am watching a UHD channel with "p" not "i", it shows me HEVC and EAC3 5.1 Sound...Than both are transcoding. Is this also normal?

Is this possible? Or do I get those transcoding options wrong?

Initially I had left my TV streaming on interlaced and was getting issues with sound/picture synch and could also not scan backwards w/out losing the buffer.

This frustrated the hell out of me until one day I set all TV interlaced TV and recorded TV to deinterlace and all my problems went away.

Android TV devices don't play interlaced content so Emby Server Transcodes it to progressive.

this statement is not true on a global level, may be true for your live tv, but is not true for all regions / sources. android tv plays this back fine without transcoding for me.

Hi.  There are additional options in the playback settings in the app for whether or not to de-interlace on the server.  You can try these but how well it works will depend on your display.

Now I had time to test it! :)

And it is working. I switched to Live-TV, went to options there and I disabled the transcoding for sd- and hd-content. Now it direct plays all channels without transcoding.
