Playback Error - Transcoding - Pixel 7 (Android 13)

Hello,

The Pixel 7 (Android 13) just came out and I've been having playback issues since then that I didn't have on my old Pixel 3a XL (Android 12).

(Note: This issue also does not appear on Emby WEB... and also the Pixel 7 is able to play those files natively outside of the Emby for Android app.)


The error that I'm seeing can be described as follows:
When I press the play button on a video file, the screen turns black and then it falls back to the Emby menu with no error message. Alternatively, sometimes it does the same with the black screen but then falls back to the menu and show the usual "Playback Error, no compatible stream" error message.

This issue does NOT happen on all files. By comparing one file that doesn't play and one that does, I found only two small differences in the video track where the file that doesn't play has a bitrate of "4 mbps", while the other file that plays correctly has a lower bitrate of "1 mbps"... I've noticed that all recent files with bitrate of "4 mbps" fail to playback.

Additionally, the files that don't play back have a H.264 level of "40" while those that play have a H.264 level of "41".

They both are MKVs, with 1 video track, 1 audio track, 1 subtitle track (ASS) and then fonts and chapters as well.

 

Another thing that I noticed is that all the files for which the playback is working correctly show the "Video" track as the second box in Emby's "Media Info", while for those that don't work, it shows up "Video" as the first box in Emby's "Media Info".

To be more visual, the video with this media info order WORKS.

I've tried to gain access to the Android Logs but it appears to be locked TIGHT.

As for Emby Server logs... first there's this weird transcoding log which I think spells out the issue:

Hi,
New Beta release 4.8.0.13 seems to resolve this issue.

My Pixel 7 is now able to playback all my videos.
