Shield TV playback keeps stopping

Hello,

I use the latest Android app, 2.0.79g, sideloaded, that connects to a remote emby server installed on Ubuntu. The entire network is wired and the devices share the same network switch.

I submitted the Debug Logs from the client side, two sets same behavior same actions.

1. I was watching "Gold Mining Paradise", I didn't touch the remote or anything that would cause the playback to stop. I also see "No playable items" or some similar message when it stops playing.
2. The you can look around 11:25 EST & 11:37 EST.
3. User "sebastian"

I have the server log if you think its a server side issue. I also have a few AppleTVs but they don't manifest this issue.

I spent quite some time, maybe watched 4-6 shows using the new app and not even once the stream stopped. I have a completely different watch experience, a lot better than the Android TV version.

Is the Android app now recommended to use on the Shield instead of the Android TV app? I too have been getting freeze-ups the last few days or so when it never has in the past!

You can make your own decision but the standard app is a little bit ahead in terms of video playback updates.

If you sideload the Android app will it get updated automatically via the Play Store?

It's not in the store yet.  Right now, you can only sideload it which will perform an upgrade.

It doesn't seem to work for me on the Shield. When you launch there's a black/gray screen for a long time then the app finally comes up. Then can't properly navigate to get to my user/login to connect to the server 😔

Why do you think you can't navigate?

On my Shield, when using the original Gamepad controller, the control is all over the place. You press right and it goes over 10 spaces in a split second for example. When I tried it on my onn 4K box it was doing all kinds of funky things in the short amount of time that I tested it. Background color/effect wasn't sticking, I couldn't back out of a videos directory that I was in, the app doesn't seem to auto-update when a new release is put out, etc.

Are you planning to merge the Android / Android TV into 1 to simplify things? I believe Channels DVR does this.

What version number did you try? And yes we are looking to unify the apps.

3.2.72 on both. i just tried again on the Shield and when I click on the my user to sign in, the Google Keyboard pops up but when you push around on the keypad nothing happens (can't move to select the correct letters/numbers). Tried and tried and couldn't get it.

Is that the only remote you have?  You don't have the old or newer Shield remote?

I have a newer gamepad as well as the older "slim" remote. I'll try again with both of those. Is there a way to auto-update or manually update the app, either within the app or through the Play Store?

For now it needs to be sideloaded but that is temporary.
