TrueNAS Scale Emby Config Network ports and DLNA Query

This relates to TrueNAS Scale 'app' version 4.7.6.0_1.0.11

First part is a comment really but I still don't understand why it is working this way.
Seems the system (not sure if it is docker or otherwise) doesn't allow TCP ports under 9000 so the default ports get pushed automatically above those numbers.

When I installed the 'application' from the apps collection it worked straight away. I clicked on the 'Web Portal' link in the TrueNAS Scale screen and it directed me to the IP of the NAS and port 9096.  When I logged into Emby and after initial setup I went to the Network section.

That section has default ports set for local http port of 8096, local https port of 8920, public http of 8093 and public https of 8920.  As I use this at home I don't care for https. I changed the local http port to 9096 then restarted the emby server and the web portal never came back.

I fixed this by going into the shell on the docker image then using vi (I almost forgot how to use it :) ) edited /config/config/system.xml and changed <HttpServerPortNumber>9096</HttpServerPortNumber> back to 8096 then restarted the app.  This time it came back, on port 9096. So moral of that story is I now don't touch that part and live with the fact the ports are not what the emby system thinks they are.

Problem I have not solved yet:

DLNA doesn't appear to work at all.  My Samsung TV looks for DLNA servers and used to find my Emby server reliably. Now it doesn't see it at all. Not sure how to test or check this?

Also for some reason I can't cast from my Google Pixel phone to my TV. The emby app on my phone has the cast icon, I click it and select my TV - it has a ChromeCast plugged into the back of it, then I click play on the app but I just see a spining circle for ever on the TV. If I disconnect the app from the TV, it plays just fine directly on my phone.  I can successfully cast other non-emby content to the TV. Again this used to work without issue and not sure how I can check or test this functionality.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks dgrigo. Good to know. As a test I fired up a generic Ubuntu 22.04 server VM inside my TrueNAS SCALE and installed minidlna on it and that worked.

I think I won't fiddle much. Seems every time I touch something it gets me into trouble. Will put up without it.

Luke, I installed bubble - personally don't like it ;) VLC works and also found a nice light app called 'DMS Explorer (DLNA Player)' that worked really well.

Yeah, that's why i don't fiddle with it too, Well i will try again as more info surface and when bluefin lands.

Motherboard have a second Nic, so I will try to... well, when all those ticks are met.

Glad you solved it with that workaround

Thanks

Hi Luke. It is a Samsung Serif and it could also see my minidlna test host.

Although my test VM worked there is another hitch as I thought fine, I'll just install emby on a VM in the NAS, but VM's can't access the NAS without a workaround by creating a bridge on the primary NIC, or something like that so that's what I'm looking into now.

Thanks Luke fpr reaching out.  I'll give it a try. Would be nicer to use the docker style setup.

In the meantime I figured out how to setup a bridge in TrueNAS, then just setup an Ubuntu Server 22.04 VM and followed instructions for an Ubuntu install and it all just worked.  More overhead than I'd like running a full VM but I've got cpu cycles to spare so....
