Anime metadata

Currently it seems like MB ignores the anime providers when fetching data, even when they are put on top priority. For example, it gets wrong titles for episodes S1 and S2 (AniDB numbering) of Angel Beats! because TheTVDB has mapped it the two episodes the other way around. But the wrong metadata on TheTVDB shouldn't have been a problem in the first place, because the sane behaviour would be to get the title etc. from the top source, i.e. AniDB?

Are there any plans to fix this issue?

MBS goes through meta-data providers by priority - since AniDB isn't set up in a way that's entirely consistent with MB meta-data organization, especially for things like specials (Or OP/EDs, which there isn't even a category for), so MBS can't find that info.

When that happens, it goes to the next-highest priority provider to see if it can find it, and if not, the next. Eventually it reaches TheTVDB. It finds the info there, but IDs it according to its own order.

Even if it did see the Specials on AniDB, AniDB only provides info like Title, run-length, etc. For Episode summary, it would still go to TheTVDB, and since the only unique identifier the episode has is the episode number/season, it would then still mix up the summaries between the two episodes.

The Anime fetcher is great for getting things like Romanji series names and AniDB plot summaries into your metadata, but on a season/episode level, you'll still be relying on TheTVDB, since AniDB just doesn't have the majority of that info.

It still makes things a lot easier for us Anime collectors (This coming from a person with a 10TB+ anime library in MB).

I see the problem. It's just such a shame that it has to rely on TheTVDB as the base, because AniDB is the "true" anime database. The root issue seems to be that no one has ever bothered to add episode summaries on AniDB.

Although, numbering based on AniDB and then matching between TheTVDB and AniDB based on name? Wouldn't that work? To allow numbering based on AniDB and yet get all the missing information from TheTVDB?
