can't manual remove tags in nfo file

Hello

I'm about to create a small script to check based on filenames whether all episodes in a season are German or English.

If all episodes are English, the script shall write a Tag to the season's .nfo file. If some German episodes arrive, the script shall remove the tag from the nfo.

Adding the tag works without problems, also the real time monitor does its job and the tag is immediately being applied.

But if I remove the tag from the nfo (also tried removing the lockedfields value) the tag comes back either through the real time monitor or through a library scan.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Enable nfo files at media location
  • Add a tag to any season via Emby GUI
  • go to the media location of the season and manually remove the <tag> and the <lockedfields> values
  • wait for the real time monitor or start a library scan

Result:

tag comes back to the season

I reproduced on a fresh Windows instance.

Is there a reason for that behavior or is it a bug?

Best regards

@Happy2Play are you able to reproduce?

Yes, applying a tag in UI then manually editing the season.nfo file, RTM rewrites the deleted tag to season.nfo.  Tested with unlocked field.

Doing the same as show level does not provide the same results, tag does not get rewritten to tvshows.nfo but does not get removed from UI either.

What if there are three tags and you only remove one, how does that compare?

The deleted tag gets removed, only tested season.nfo.

OK there was a topic in the testing area about this a couple months ago. It's something that needs to be looked at when importing existing metadata. When something is missing, the server doesn't really know if the metadata is just incomplete or if it's actually intended to not be there, so that's why this currently happens.

Currently you can add them, change them, but not completely remove them once added from a nfo file.  Complete removal requires UI intervention.  Have not tested tags at every possible level though.

Just curious whether fixing this issue is on your shortterm todo list or whether it will take awhile?

It's something that will be reviewed in future updates. Thanks.
