When trying to sideload Emby into my Samsung TV, I receive the following messages, I must be doing something wrong, could you please point me in the right direction? Thank you!

[User App]: emby installation with USB package will be started!
[User App]: emby installation with USB package is failed!

I have done the following:

1) Confirmed my USB stick is 2.0.
2) Tried both formatting USB stick to FAT16 AND FAT32.
3) Downloaded tizen.zip onto USB root.
4) Unzipped tizen.zip onto USB root.
5) Confirmed that "userwidget" directory is created with the 2 files successfully unzipped into the directory.

Samsung model number: UA85JU7000JXZK
Samsung firmware version: 1231
Samsung Emby client version: 1.2.6

Hi, did you try again?

Hi Luke, thanks for your reply.  I have tried many times but still receive the same error.

Is the TV connected to the internet?

Yes, the TV is connected to the internet.  I double checked by playing a YouTube video before plugging in the USB.
Same error occurs:
[User App]: emby installation with USB package will be started!
[User App]: emby installation with USB package is failed!

Or perhaps is there a way to get more detailed logs of the installation process?
Is there a way to do that on the Samung TV?
Thanks for your help.

The messages are very generic.

Did you write protect the usb after copying the files?  Is there space left on the usb for writing?  The install needs to write a couple files after you plug the usb in.

The USB has no function to write protect, in any case I did not do this.
The USB is 8gb and has only the emby installation files installed.
I am preplexed, is there a way to see the log files of the installation process? At least then we can start to debug because right now the error messages are overly generic.

Hi,

Do you have an older version on your TV? If so, please remove that one.

Power cycle your TV:

  • Power cable out.
  • Press the physical on button on the TV for about 30 second.
  • Plug the power back in.
  • Retry with the USB.

I would guess not without the developer's kit, but not sure that would do any good either.  @SamES

No, you can't see anything useful.

This is the best thing to try:

Thanks for your suggestion.  I power cycled my TV as suggested then received the following message:
"Updating TV software...Don't turn off the TV or disconnect the power cable until the update finishes.  Your TV will turn itself off and on again automatically after completing the update."
Once it finished doing its thing, I checked for internet connection availability then plugged in the USB.  Same vague error was shown on the top of the screen:
[User App]: emby installation with USB package will be started!
[User App]: emby installation with USB package is failed!

There is also a firmware update version 1550 you could try.

85" UHD 4K Flat Smart TV JU7000 Series 7 | Samsung Support LEVANT

Thanks for your suggestion, I downloaded the firmware, followed the instructions and put it on my USB stick, plugged the USB in and tried to use it by going to Settings->Support->Update Now, but the TV failed to find the update.

I then proceeded to the following link instead as this is the version of my TV (Hong Kong version of the TV).
85" UHD 4K Flat Smart TV JU7000 Series 7
Surprisingly the website shows version 1218 as the latest version where my TV has version 1231.
Anyways, I tried the downloaded version from the website with the same result: "No new update not found from USB".

At this point I am thinking that the Emby Samsung client is just not compatible with my Tizen Samsung TV since it is the Hong Kong version?

You might consider removing the old Emby install from your TV and try installing again with the USB stick. But be aware that if it fails you have no Emby at all on your TV.

I have never had the Emby client on my TV. I am trying to install it for the first time.
In any case, I checked My Apps and double confirmed that Emby is not anywhere to be seen.

I also tried again with a new USB stick and received the same errors.
