Going on vacation and want to export movies in "mobile" format

I am planning on going from Wisconsin to Texas on Amtrak Apr. 20 - May 4.  I know Amtrak has Wi-Fi the whole way, but I'm not sure how good it is and if I will be able to play movies from my Ubuntu Emby Server at home.  Just to make sure I have movies for the 4+ days I will be on the train, I want to see if I can export a list of my movies and put them on my laptop.  My systems are as follows:

Server
Pop_OS (a fork of Ubuntu) version 4.6.7.0

Client
Acer 317 Chromebook
Emby client
64 GB of storage
512 GB MicroSD card (I just ordered it from Amazon, I hope it works...)
I also have VLC for Android if Emby can't play the videos I have on disk

Videos I want to watch
I found a website that lists the 25 Greatest Superhero Movies of All Time according to IMDB.
I have 24 of them (I am missing The Batman which came out this year), but that is OK.
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls056551210/

Questions:

  1. Can I download movies from my server as if they are being played on a mobile device.
    1. This is so they are hopefully smaller
    2. It should lower the resolutions so my Chromebook can handle them better
  2. Can I play the movies in Emby if I turn off my Wi-Fi?
    1. If so, how?
    2. Or should I plan on using VLC?
  3. They are in various formats (mkv,avi,mp4,etc.), for either of these players, what would make the Chromebook play them better.
    1. I can convert them if necessary.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thank You,

Mike

Hi, yes the download feature in our Emby for Android app does exactly this.

Yes!

You can configure the download format, but our Emby for Android app can play most files so there shouldn't be much to worry about.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
