Emby on Xbox is streaming at 144p, no idea what's going on

Recently got an Xbox Series S and set it up with Emby, of course. For some reason, ALL of my 4k content plays at 144p. On the dashboard it says "4k transcode". Totally confused.

I have an Nvidia Shield which plays the same content on Emby without a hitch at 4k. My internet is gigabit fibre and I haven't had this kind of issue before, not really sure what's happening.

Where can I find the ffmpeg logs?

It will be located in the same place as the server log.  Depending on your server version you will see the path on the Dashboard or three dot menu Get Server Info.  Or you can download them via Settings-Logs.

My idiocy will always be my greatest bottleneck. The damn HDMI cable was the culprit.

Everything is working great now.

EDIT: Hm looks like I spoke too soon. The HDMI cable did indeed solve my YouTube 4K problem but not the Emby one. I'll get you the logs shortly.

Sorry for the delay. I've attached them to this post.

I reproduced the problem and saved these immediately.

Is the client playback quality set to auto?  If so adjust to a specific quality.

Or do you have a limit set somewhere?

Everything is set to Auto.

When I changed the playback quality, nothing changed except load time.

Check both the server network settings and user permissions. You may have added a limit server-side and then forgotten that you did that.

I've gone through every setting I can possibly imagine, nothing has any kind of limits set.

Any other solutions?

Each user page on the admin console also looks like this. Each user has no limits in their individual settings as well.

How about the global limit in the server network section?

And then also the quality setting from inside the xbox app?

Nothing, double checked the Xbox too. Everything is set to auto.

I figured if it was a server-based limit, then it should be affecting me on my Shield as well

@Lukeisn't this just "Auto" being conservative for remote connection?  Isn't default fallback 3Mbps?

It could be what is happening, yes.

Sorry, so which setting should I modify? To confirm, will this setting only change the upper limit with Emby still automatically adjusting for slower internet connections?

Try setting the playback quality setting in the app's playback settings and see if that helps.

Unfortunately it does not.

The same thing happens, the quality is stuck at 720p

Please provide server and ffmpeg log for this change.

What exactly did you change the option to as these logs still show a 3Mbps limit.

All good guys. I'm not going to pursue this any longer. It's been a considerable waste of time.

Going to have to start looking for alternatives to Emby altogether.

I appreciate your efforts.
