I have a Sony A1E and recently bought a HTA5000 Sony soundbar which supports DTS, AC3, and Atmos. With Atmos and AC3 it plays direct for both video and audio. However, with DTS it plays direct for visual but shows software decode for audio. The soundbar supports all three formats and I'm trying to figure out why it is software decoding for DTS.

Looking at the specs for both TV and soundbar - it shouldn't.

You can play an item with DTS for few seconds and then send logs from within the app.

Emby for Android TV/Fire TV and Emby for Roku Logs

These apps have the option to send an app log to us electronically.  You enter the settings page and turn on the "Debug Options".  Now there will be a new option on the user menu at the top of your app home page labelled "Send Log".

  NOTE

If you are using Android TV/Fire TV and your problem is with playback, please send the log directly from the playback OSD.
There will be an option on the "cog" menu.

Reproduce your problem and then use this button to send the log.  Then add the following information to your report in the forum:

  • Exactly what you were doing and what happened.  Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem
  • The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5)
  • The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time

As a sidenote, what setting do you have under Audio Output (in-app Settings>Playback)?

Hi.  An app log will help but are you sure that the TV will pass DTS to the soundbar?  Exactly how is it hooked up?

I'm working on the log. It is hooked up from the soundbar to the tv through an HDMI using the ARC port. Also on the box it shows support for AC3, DTS, and Atmos. I checked again to make sure.

Hi.  On the box of what?  The TV or the sound bar.  It is the TV I'm wondering about.

I think I figured it out. Looking through the booklet with the Sony A1E it supports some formats of DTS and Atmos (not all) as it has ARC and not EARC. So the format's that are software decoding are the ones that are not.
