Playback stops

I have sent log from my Nvidia Shield

  • Exactly what you were doing and what happened.  Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem

I was watching Pirates of the Carribbean. BluRay version H264 with flac 5.1 sound track. At approx 24 minutes in, the movie stopped. Every time I resume it stops immediately.

I tried to restart and FF to the spot and it still does it. I also skipped the spot by 30s skipping and then I met a stop a few minutes later. Although this test was done a few days ago.

I re-ripped the disc yesterday in an effort to verify before writing here but alas the same playback stop is present. I also watched the entire movie on disc via BluRay player with no issues at all (also uncompressed sound mix)

I have other movies with flac that are not compromised (e.g. James Bond Casino Royal). So I assume the mix is not at fault.

  • The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5)

I guess 16:10 GMT+1 may be 10:10 utc-5?

  • The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time

Can you guys tell what the log says and maybe point me in the right direction?

It would be cool to be able to see the log without having to contact you guys first?

Thanks for a great product and superb forum

Hi.  It only happens with this one item?  This is a new one but, based on the error being thrown, please try increasing the size of the buffer in the app playback settings.

@ebr

Thank you for the reply.

Funny you are asking. Yesterday I would have said. Yes... Only video out of 700.

Today I say... No... I just sent a new log (same user) and I have the same issue with Pirates 2 with the same audio/video formats. It stopped approx 5 minutes and 10 seconds in.

I tried to increase buffer to large but the result is the same.

Same basic production as the other movie - from same studio, etc.  As I said, I've never seen this before but there is something wacky about it.  I guess it is possible it is actually some sort of copy-protection scheme but that's a wild guess.  More likely it is just something out of spec.

@ebr

Well copy protection is a good guess. Yes same production.

But it works on PC. So is the copy protection limited to exoplayer?

How would one go about fixing this? 🧐

Sadly my Synology nas is not good enough for transcoding. I am a cheap prick 😄

I may have a go at re-ripping with DD lossy instead to see if that will let the movie keep playing.

Just sent new logs approx 15:05 UTC-5

Movie Pirates of the Caribbean 2

I re-ripped this version too today. With both flac 5.1 and ac3 DD 5.1.

Played first flac then ac3 and then flac version.

Flac version stops at approx 5m8s both times. Ac3 version just keeps playing.

So we narrowed it to the flac format

I testet the flac version on PC emby, with no issues. Also in MrMc/Kodi on the shield. No issues with flac.

This would at first glance seem to be either an emby on shield issue or exoplayer issue as I believe to have ruled out all other possibilities? Else please let me know if I can do other tests.

Is it possible that we can look into something to fix this?

Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and let us know how that compares?

Thanks !

Thanks for getting back to me.

I testet out with the sideloaded arm7 version.

This solved the issue.

Is this the "solution" or will you be updating the other version of your software?

The stats for nerds is a lot less informative of what is happening.

I am also unsure how this version works compared to the original app. Do you have a doc that gives me an overview on the differences?

I only ask because I have spent a lot of time optimizing settings in the original app so that movies play, look and feel just right. I do not hope this version changes this?

Although I must say. The responsiveness of this sideloaded version is so much better. Everything feels quicker. Quick page opening. Quick loading. Quick skipping in movies.
