matsonjr 4
Does anyone have a recommended 4k drive to use for extracting their 4k discs? There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews out there of what works and what doesn't. Thanks-

DavyC 0
I have been using an Asus BW-16D1HT (with updated firmware) for a while now. It has worked well for me.
jachin99 82
Whichever drive you choose make sure you understand the correct firmware version you need. The wrong update can ruin your drives ability to rip discs. You also may not be able to rip and view encrypted discs on the same firmware but I'm not sure. Deathsquirrel 741
I'm very happy with my LG drive, LG WH16NS60.
clarkss12 295
Not sure if he still sells drives for 4k ripping, but he guarantees his drives will work. I got mine from him and been working great for about 3 years. https://www.avsforum.com/threads/lg-wh16ns40-super-multi-blue-bdxl-drives-for-sale.2987104/#post-56415134
muzicman0 59
I have the BW-16D1HT, in a USB3 enclosure. Works great. Firmware version 3.10. If I recall, I had to downgrade it, which was a pain, but I managed to get it done.
FrostByte 5049
I got this ASUS BC-12D2HT off Newegg from a 3rd party vendor. Works with UHD and Makemkv for me. Comes with a note NOT to upgrade the firmware. ASUS Blu-ray Combo Drive - UHD Friendly - Newegg.com

Spaceboy 2493
the best way to find out is to try it
all4dom 73
I'm gonna do that. I was reading some of the post on the makemkv forum but they all mostly talk about a pioneer drive & a hacked firmware. So I'm gonna buy one of the drives posted here, a 4k disc & I'll try my drive out first & take it from there. I'm hoping my drive works to save me a few bucks but doubtfull.
