MateyTate 15 Posted August 6, 2021 Share Posted August 6, 2021 Hi all, I appreciate there has been a lot of threads and effort by people to explain how to do this, but it's just not simple enough. I don't want to be going in via SSH and messing around. I simply do not understand it well enough. People like me use Emby as its so simple, and a lot of us do not have the knowledge most seem to have on here. Even the basic instructions like "don't forget to change custom cache, temp sync folder etc" mean nothing to me! Plex was really simple, will the Emby upgrade path be made easier at some point too? I want to upgrade to DSM7, but not if I'm likely going to screw it up and lose my current Emby install. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Solution Carlo 4331 Posted August 6, 2021 Solution Share Posted August 6, 2021 Hi, unfortunately because of the way DSM 7 is implemented and it's new security model we can't do the migration for you during install so the instructions provided in this thread are about as simple as it will get. There is even a video you can watch and follow along with. I'm not sure how we can make it any simpler at this point. With that said, if these instructions are beyond your level or comfort we can assist you with a remote session and remotely do most of the migration for you while explaining the steps and showing you how to set permissions for Shares under DSM 7. If there are limitations due to Synology, then I understand. I’ll watch the video you’ve kindly shared a few times, and may take the plunge…. I can do this in my sleep at this point. LOL But once you get going, it's not as hard as it may seem. Each step is easy to do, but there just happens to be many steps. Carlo 4331 Posted August 7, 2021 Share Posted August 7, 2021 Yes you can absolutely install the new version on DSM 7 but you won't be able to move you old system over as it doesn't exist any more.
