SRT subtitles not displaying, other unknown subtitles are displaying
ebr replied to davesurfer's topic in Roku
My best guess is this: The other video may have had an embedded track marked "forced" which would have made it impossible for you to select another one. -

Hi. The IPTV plugin is really designed for single streams like cameras and such. If you are wanting to access a m3u channel list via Emby, just use regular Live TV. Live TV Setup

User Perrmissions Dependent on the Content Being Viewed
alex77777 replied to alex77777's topic in Apple TV
You can even test it by disabling the ability to transcode for a user and playing truehd on the apple tv, it will actually play better than if the server were to convert it since its handled by the apple tv itself. It also worth mentioning that the apple tv can also handle direct play PGS Subtitles but for some reason the Emby Server wants to transcode them server side unnecessarily. Ive just made separate user profiles for all my apple tvs and disabled all transcodinng/conversion permissions for the user and everything plays faster and looks better. When ever there is a transcode or conversion the Dolby Vision stream also has inaccurate colors. I think Emby on Apple TV will benefit greatly if these issues are addressed, from what I can tell it just seems that the Emby server doesn't know that the Apple TV is capable of handling TrueHD conversions and direct play PGS Subtitles on its own so it converts server side which causes the inaccurate colors of the Dolby Vision stream. Let me know if I need to explain further/better. Hopefully what I typed made sense. Thanks -
Hi. Where is your server installed? Exactly what did you "buy with a friend"?
-
@Lukethank you for your help! I have a separate question about how I should categorize/separate some of my music. For example, have a lot of Christian and Christmas songs, but I don’t want them mixed into my main music. Should I create separate music libraries for them or is there a better way to accomplish this.

Totality: For those obsessed with perfect libraries
SikSlayer replied to chaser180's topic in Third Party Apps
Gets better with every update. I have a new feature request, if I may. two actually. One, I'd like to be able to see what's in a specific library by clicking on it, and secondly, I'd like to be able to sort media in any view by various criteria, date, length, resolution, etc. I'm really impressed by the quality of your app. Great work! -
User Perrmissions Dependent on the Content Being Viewed
alex77777 replied to alex77777's topic in Apple TV
The Apple TV can convert it to LPCM on its own (its essentially TrueHD but without the height channels since LPCM is also lossless). It doesn't need the server to convert it. -

So transcoding with subtitles now works properly, even though there is a small delay before the video starts playing. Subtitle extraction is still broken for streaming devices like the Google TV and Roku, so I'll keep that disabled for now because there isn't a way to set it globally and asking some of my family to manually change those settings for their clients is a hard sell.

Ive mounted via NFS bc I heard its faster and more efficient than a SMB connection (NFS is also the same connection type I used for my linux server bc SMB gave me issues with emby). I also made a shortcut script (harder than you would think lol) that runs constantly and checks the connection to my NAS and remounts if connection is ever lost.

RevWayne started following Recordings folder

I am new to Emby and I can't find an answer to this question. I hope someone can clarify for me. In setting up the Emby server on my M4 Mac Mini, I followed the instructions given on the Emby site. As a part of setting up my Library folders, I created a folder defined as Mixed Media (per instructions) for recordings from my Emby DVR. What I am finding is that there are no recordings in that folder. However, all of the recordings are in the system created Live TV area. So I know the DVR is working, and I know how to access the recordings - I just use the Live TV access rather than the Library folder. But that brings up the question - is there any reason why I need that Library folder on Emby? I know I won't delete the media files, but I don't want to lose access to them via Live TV if that's the way I should go. I'd appreciate a little clarification. Thanks.

I have all my media files on my Synology NAS, and the Emby server on my M4 Mac Mini. I mount the media file on my Mac Mini via SMB. Once the file is mounted (via File > Go to Server), the Mini connects with no problem.
-
Sorry, what is the new Emby player? Reading here suggests it is not Emby Theater, because that isn't new, it has been broken for people for years as it seems.
-
@brothomThanks for your response. I had my music library installed but no images and artwork were appearing. This is when I “assumed “ I needed the AudioDb API Key. What I later realized is that for some reason I didn’t have MusicBrainz plugin installed. Once I installed MusicBranz, it started populating. Second question, I have a lot of Christian and Christmas songs, but I don’t want them mixed into my main music. Should I create separate music libraries for them or is there a better way to accomplish this. Thank you for your help.

Hi Well the new Emby player for Linux should fix your issue no ? No need to use anymore the browser and you can setup in it with lot of details how you want audio to be played ! Vincèn

Sorry, the subject is deliberately chosen a bit polemic, but I am honestly confused what I am missing here. I assume almost everyone uses Emby mostly to watch movies or other high quality video and many people will have more than a stereo setup. But under Linux, neither Chrome not Firefox support DTS and the server transcodes to MP3 stereo. So how are you all using this? I see 3 possibilities: My Brave plays AAC just fine in 5.1. Can I get Emby to transcode to that instead of 2ch MP3? Kodi. Been there, done that. Works, but in principle, I am very happy with a web player and don't want a full screen mediacenter. Emby Theater, which apparently isn't broken only for me. (In my case on Ubuntu+deb, I loose all control once a playing video goes fullscreen) Is the situation under Linux really that dire, or am I missing something?

This one i can answer. it's because we haven't gotten the stable update yet @hjason7812. Once there's an update that ends in .0 will the bot for the truenas app that Stavros maintains push the update to us and hopefully we are back on stable then. I say hopefully because i don't know how smooth the upgrade from beta to stable will go

Trying to play with this but seem to be stuck at what is the appropriate URL: ://YOUR_EMBY_SERVER_URL/emby/Playlists I have my server on 192.168.0.2. I've tried variations of: http://192.168.0.2:8096/emby/Playlists http://192.168.0.2:8096/web/emby/Playlists http://192.168.0.2/emby/Playlists None are returning any values in the bash command. Sorry if this is an obvious solution I am missing.

This is the golden piece of information I didn't have. I wasn't aware of optional shared network folder. This step should be at least mentioned in the github wiki or the FAQ here. I'll try it later today after work and check if this works with native access.

Normally yes, but if Emby isn't able to read the contents due to encoding, that might cause issues.
