I brought this up years ago. But it keeps getting ignored.

Hi, I think you mean SMB support? I would not say that it's being rejected.

Aquí te explican como armarlo: https://emby.media/support/articles/Quick-Start.html

Why is direct file access being rejected? Why are they so keen on Exoplayer when there are better solutions available?

I think there's room for compromise here, perhaps it shouldn't show until ~2-3 seconds have elapsed without a connecting being established. It's understandable that it may take some time to load some assets after establishing the connection, which the regular spinner can handle, but if genuinely still waiting for a connection to be established then it should display after that period which you can then cancel.

4K HEVC shows as 1080p, think I can't find any setup to fix?
Luke replied to PeteGul's topic in Android
Actually, if you want to talk about direct file access, I will be happy to discuss it in a thread dedicated to that. And I'm sure ebr will as well. But when I come in this thread, my priority is for PeteGul and his resolution matching issue. -

I’m out. Whether I bring it up in a new thread or not – which I’ve already tried – nothing’s going to change anyway. -
I'm not quite sure of the point here. I've never asked for it to be removed and think it's a nice addition for those who need it. However, if your connection is so fast that the logo appears and then a popup is displayed and disappears before you can even read it before the home screen is shown then it isn't really necessary to make it show in the first place and just confuses people.

That's what I said in the beginning Every time we (devs) come back in here, we look at the thread title to refresh our memory, and we expect to be talking about resolution matching. -

vdatanet replied to PeteGul's topic in Android
@PeteGulis right — this has nothing to do with the app not detecting the resolution correctly. -
Only if the connection succeeds between 300ms and 600ms will it slow it down and hold it until 600ms. Anything quicker or slower and it will not add any additional time.
-
I'm also pretty sure it's actively slowing down the startup process, because there's a minimum time for the message to display that's longer than my normal connection time. It looks like an error message, and there's not generally enough time to properly read it and figure out what's going on. It's incredibly annoying.

Why? It’s the Exoplayer itself that’s the problem. Direct File Access, or a different player, would sort it out. - Today

Please make your own thread about direct access. Even if it is slightly in the lane of my first question. -
Hi, older versions might have just grabbed the trailer file name. Newer versions base it on movie name, so it depends on when it was imported into your library.

chowbok started following Trailer naming?

Not a big deal, just curious: when Emby shows a trailer for a movie, where does it get the name of the trailer from? It doesn't seem to be derived from either the trailer's filename or its embedded title.

Thanks for the update, Luke. I ended up creating a custom plugin for myself called PreshowManager. It was a pain in the rear to get working, but after about 4-5 months of using it, I am absolutely loving it. I just hope the upcoming release of the (now beta) new server does not break it! Should I be worried? lol It supports local preshow videos, local, and internet trailers, genre-based trailer selection, and separate preshow setups for Movies and TV Shows. Features Random Trailers Random Trailers mode plays a configurable number of trailers before the selected Movie or TV episode. It supports: Local trailers from your Emby libraries Internet trailers from TMDb/YouTube Mixed or Library Specific trailer selection Separate trailer counts for Movies and TV Shows Excluding trailers for the Movie or TV series currently being played Collection/franchise filtering Internet trailers playing before local trailers when both are selected Trailer selection remains random across the available pool. Genre Trailers Genre Trailers mode selects trailers based on the genre of the Movie or TV Show being played. Movies and TV Shows have separate settings, including: Local trailer support Internet trailer support Trailer count Genre linking rules The genre linking system lets you decide which trailer genres can be used for each content genre. For example, a Horror movie could be configured to use trailers from: Horror Science Fiction Thriller Each genre can have its own combination. Preshow Mode Preshow Mode lets you build the preshow sequence manually. Movies and TV Shows each have their own set of 15 slots. Each slot can be assigned a preshow element or left unassigned. Slots are processed in the order they appear. Example: Slot 1 - Internet Trailer Slot 2 - Local Trailer Slot 3 - Local Preshow Video Slot 4 - Local Preshow Video Slot 5 - Genre Trailer Slot 6 - Unassigned Movie and TV slot lists are completely separate, so each can have its own preshow setup. Local Preshow Videos Local preshow videos can be used for things like: Coming Soon bumpers Feature Presentation videos Theater intros Countdown videos Studio-style presentation clips Custom preshow material A default folder can be configured and scanned for available videos. Individual slots can also use a different folder when needed. Internet Trailers Internet trailers are pulled from TMDb and use YouTube for playback. PreshowManager caches and indexes the trailer information so Emby can play the trailers through its normal intro playback system. Internet trailers are kept separate from local trailers because the two use different playback methods inside Emby. Movie and TV Settings Movies and TV Shows are handled separately throughout the plugin. This includes: Preshow slots Trailer counts Local trailer pools Internet trailer pools Genre settings Enable/disable options This makes it possible to have a completely different preshow setup for Movies than for TV episodes.

Agree, this helped those with slow connections. However, those of us with fast connection do NOT need to see it at all. It confuses everyone when they first see it and it doesn't look right. There must be a way to tailor it so only certain people see it.
-
Im very excited to try this out. Without knowing if this exists yet, my only ask would be thst there's an option to not show a trailer rated above the film you are going to watch. Example, the trailer for Seven doesn't show before watching toy story.
