playback is often paused, crashes, freezes but for a specific user (its the wife-BIG problem :))
alex77777 replied to Zeltak's topic in MacOS
@Zeltak Did you check to see if any of her streams are being transcoded? I also wanted to try a different test, Can you try disabling audio and video transcoding, as well as changing of container format for only her user and see if improves playback on the Apple TV (this may cause issues on other devices but Ive solved playback issues on my Apple TV this way). -

Ah, that simplifies the content of .embyignore. Thanks, Luke. Unfortunately, this still means I have to put the .embyignore files up one level from the folder I want to hide… but of course, not any higher than the library root folders. It seems rather a shortcoming of this new system that it no longer supports any way for a folder to designate itself as ignored. Consider it a feature request, I guess.

I think my server was hacked
woofstream replied to edvinmorales@hotmail.com's topic in General/Windows
That's nteresting, very insightful. Is using 443 as the remote port fine or has that been a mistake? I'm by no means an expert, I just thought I needed this for SSL. -
I think my server was hacked
Apotropaic replied to edvinmorales@hotmail.com's topic in General/Windows
That IP relates to some ISP in France, can’t jump to conclusions as someone may have hacked them and then piggy backed off their equipment. Interesting it does look like a static IP for some home broadband. Anyway, this is more reason not to use the default Emby ports for remote users. It’s trivial to scan large ranges of home broadband connections for ports 8096 and 8920. Once you find the Emby login pages it’s then just about brute force. This same IP address was caught scanning for FTP servers a few years ago….so they have form for this kind of activity. Again, everyone should change their port forwarding settings so the outside port is randomly in the 20,000-65,000 range. Its not foolproof but anyone going to the lengths of scanning thousands of random ports isn’t doing it to find Emby servers. - Yesterday

Music auto resume not working on iOS/Carplay
jasonmcroy replied to mjvracing's topic in Apple iOS / macOS
I see this is an older post but I was going to post about this over in the iOS Beta forum but thought I would just add to this existing one. @LukeI am seeing this behavior on the beta app for iOS. If I start a playlist, pause playing, exit the app and completely close it (ie, swiping up on the app on the iOS screen to fully close it) then re-open the app it doesn't remember I was mid a playlist. Same thing with a single song outside of a playlist but I usually just listen to playlists, not a single song. But I tried it just out of curiousity. It's the same behavior as above whether I am listening directly on the phone or using it via Carplay. Every other app I have tried to play back music with will remember the position except Emby. Have been trying to use a 3rd Pary app but I have other issues with that one so I would rather be able to just use the native Emby app. -
To be honest I did not find it yet, It seem random too like some movies start after 2s and some take over 5s so yeah....

Hi, what is the exact issue that you're having?

I think my server was hacked
woofstream replied to edvinmorales@hotmail.com's topic in General/Windows
Yes, it was the same. But I didn't post anything that would allow them to connect to me or identify me, no API keys or addresses in my one log. edit: unless I did post that stuff in my log and it's super obvious and I'm not seeing it, I'd love for someone to correct me on that. Not even being sarcastic. -

Was it the same IP of 88.177.86.82 ? If so, that certainly points to them as the wolf in sheeps clothing and possibly a bot automating everything to download and pose as a user. A real-life version of the game "Among Us". -
Your welcome! I tried to be educational but it's difficult and quickly becomes extremely complicated when you start mixing different logical rules. Just let me know if anyone want help with some special rules or outcome and we'll try to figure it out Yes there is an any user parameter. When you select for example Watched / Unwatched you can filter for All, Any or a specific user. And in this example; All Users - will give you movies and shows that every user has completed. For example, all users have seen Batman and then it get on the list. But it is enougt that only one user have not seen that movie to brake the rule. Any User - here you get all movies that John has seen, AND all movies Maria has seen, AND all movies Donald has seen, and so on...

I think my server was hacked
woofstream replied to edvinmorales@hotmail.com's topic in General/Windows
I shared logs one time, I don't think I had an IP or API key in there though. Edit: I double checked, and no, I did not expose anything like that. And the intruder tried signing into one of the profiles twice before moving on, so they clearly had no real way in besides guessing a password. So no, I don't think that's the issue here. For context, again: the same IP tried accessing my Emby and failed. I have my server down right now while I try to sort it out, but I don't think my and OP's experiences being so close together is a coincidence. I'd love to know what happened. -
I think my server was hacked
speechles replied to edvinmorales@hotmail.com's topic in General/Windows
All of this is circumspect, but I think he means a user on these forums. Not a user of his Emby server he created. A "fake user" on these forums. A user created with no good intent in mind. Only with the sole intent to steal another users server/credentials and possibly personal information/photos so they can be possibly blackmailed/extorted at some later time depending on what that information discloses. Some of the users of this forum create an account strictly so they can download logs of others, make a few random posts, and try to blend in. Wolves in sheeps clothing. These "fake users" then browse these forums looking for logs posted. Hoping the person who posted these logs has directly accessed the logs with the file system without using the Emby download method to obtain them which would have scrubbed out that sensitive information. These "fake users" hope to see unredacted API keys exposed and their external ports are open. If the logs show the API key it will likely also show the IP address of the server. It would be rather trivial after that to use those to access the server, which would show as the user who created that API key. He gave the IP address above in his first post which does resolve to: 88-177-86-82.subs.proxad.net If this same user was registered on this forum with this same IP address it would potentially point to a suspect. But it might also be a revolving door VPN address that could be potentially anybody. But it could be the very attacker who used these forums to patrol for logs and then sneak onto his server. He gave you the smoking gun. https://redmondmag.com/articles/2026/03/10/hackers-dont-break-in-anymore.aspx -

Emby Theater v3.0.20 (Server v4.9.3.0) Homescreen Horiz. navigation broken
step55 replied to d00zah's topic in Windows & Xbox
A fresh install shows the same issue. Interestingly the navigation buttons work properly if I access the affected pc via rdp from a different pc on my network. This might point towards a solution? I've also just tried installing on a different Windows 11 pc, and the problem doesn't show up. But that's no help for my Emby HTPC. The affected pc is Windows 10, UHD 605 graphics, latest drivers. -
Emby server won't detect new items in TV shows library
xifnitsuj replied to xifnitsuj's topic in General/Windows
My Emby server libraries (TV Shows and Movies) are no longer detecting or adding new items from the media folders. Previously, new files were picked up automatically via real-time monitoring or manual scans. Now, scans do nothing useful—even full manual scans complete almost instantly (around 5 seconds) without accessing the disk (no HDD activity light). No items are added or refreshed. As a troubleshooting step, I deleted the TV Shows library and recreated it. This made things worse: the library now shows zero items (previously it had most/all older items, just missing new ones). Upon checking, all libraries are affected the same way—no items detected at all. Specific examples and steps taken: Media is stored locally on drive T: (a mounted internal drive with 7 TB free out of 21 TB total). Paths: T:\Media\tv shows T:\Media\movies Until a recent Emby server update, everything worked normally: real-time monitoring detected changes, and manual "Scan Library Files" tasks processed files with visible progress (progress indicator circle on library, disk activity). Now: Real-time monitoring is enabled (Library settings > Advanced). Manual scans (via library menu or Scheduled Tasks > "Scan Media Library" server-wide) finish in ~5 seconds with no disk activity. The usual progress indicator (spinning circle on the library) does not appear during scans. No new or existing items are detected/added—even a test MP4 placed directly in the root folder is ignored. chkdsk on T: reports no issues. Antivirus is not blocking (confirmed disabled during tests). Folders/files are fully accessible in Windows Explorer under the same user account that runs Emby. I temporarily moved recently added items out of the folders to test if one was problematic—no change, so I restored them. Error messages:None visible—no errors, warnings, or failures reported in Emby UI, Dashboard, or logs during scan attempts. The task simply reports "completed" immediately with no further action.Logs:I attached a recent embyserver log (generated moments after running the server-wide "Scan Media Library" scheduled task). The log shows startup and internal "Scan Metadata Folder" activity (quick DB queries for persons/metadata), but no mention of any media library scan, path traversal, file processing, or my T: paths. This matches the lack of disk activity.Additional notes: This is a server-side issue only—no playback or client problems (clients work fine with existing cached items). Emby version: 4.9.3.0 (from logs). Running on Windows 10 (build 26200), Emby runs directly under my user account (not as a service). Let me know if you need more logs (e.g., during a specific action), screenshots of library settings, or anything else. embyserver (3).txt -

Most likely answer is that it’s a sneaky way of blocking you. -
Intermittent "No Compatible Streams..." Error (STRM files)
Luke replied to sundevil67's topic in Web App
Platform doesn’t matter because it’s Emby server communicating with their server, not the app. -
xifnitsuj started following Emby server won't detect new items in TV shows library

my tv shows library on emby server will not pick up new items in the libraries directory. Scandisk, Result was no issues found. Plenty of diskspace free 7 of21 tb, no errors or warnings from emby that the scan task failed failed. real time monitoring is ON already. I forced many (dozens ) of manual scan, no impact. antivirus is not blocking access. As a last ditch effort to fix this, I deleted the TV Shows library and recreated it. This did not work either. Now, the library has NO items being found, when previously it had almost all items with the exception of new items not being detected. none are detected now. embyserver.txt

That's not what we see in you screenshots. Can you tell us which of those folders you pointed the library to?

Hi. What do you mean by "Emby member"? Your server users are yours and you are in complete control of them.
