SamES started following Emby on VegaOS and Emby Android app on Fire TV says “This app is currently unavailable in your location” (Austin, TX)

Agree, that would be the best way to handle that. I’ll see what i can do. Hard. Very hard… The API for IMDB is EXPENSIVE and not something any individual want to pay. A quick google search says around $150,000 per year… So the alternative is to scrape their webside, but that is breaking ther Terms of service. Even so, I’m not willing to put down the time and effort to create that function. What you could do if you are having trouble with Trakt itself, is to use MDBList. MDBList can fetch list from trakt directly within its own filters. Search the public lists and you will probably find someone who has already created one that is available. I’m curently working on some bug fixes and a new cleanup function (remove tags and collections on the server). I’m expection to finish this update within a day or two. After this I’m gonna look into adding support for more external sources.

Just checking back on this. Luke, were you able to determine anything in the logs that would be causing some of my movies not being able to play?

There is no evidence of database issues in the emby server log Looking at the libraries, only odd thing is you have the same media twice in 2 different libraries Library: Yoga & Mindfullness Configured paths: /volume3/Mindfullness Library: Mind Fullness Configured paths: /volume3/Mindfullness Is ir possible you have Cinema Intros enabled and before the movie plays, other media is played ?

IMDB's API costs tens of thousands of dollars, I believe.

Hello, Is there some file association to be done somewhere to solve this? .ac3 external files appear in the list but .eac3 don't (they show only when muxed into video file). Thanks in advance!

Nothing wrong with a rant lol! The artists intent is a funny one, I'm not sure what it is they are going for. I never feel they make best use of the rear/side channels in 5.1, never mind Atmos and beyond. My own preference is I want to hear effects, if I've gone to the trouble of having so many discrete speakers then I want to hear them. I want them to pop. When there's an explosion I want the room to shake. It adds to my immersion as it makes feel like an experience. In my layman's experience sound mixes seem to be for the lowest denominator which is TV speakers. However, recent TV shows on the major streaming apps are a lot better, I guess they are selling HDR and Atmos as a feature so are more inclined to experiment. And every so often you come across a film with a great sound mix too. I wonder if the 'old' mastering skills were driven by limitations in hardware as well as bandwidth/dynamic range of vinyl/tapes etc. But conversely we now have far more dynamic range but maybe less skill or effort in mastering, which still delivers a superior result (mostly) but imagine how much more they could do. -
Wondering how hard would it be to add in support for IMDB lists? I've been having issues with trakt.tv lately where it won't even load the webpage for me anymore.

Just to be clear this is not meant to be criticism against the emby project or any individuals involved with emby as developers or as users! I started my emby journey back when it was Media Browser and my users peaked just before Covid took over and strangely it went downhill after that and I shut my server down for maybe 3-4 years. Maybe a year ago I started my server back up, mainly for my own 'enjoyment'. I was curious where the project had got to, what the community was up to and to be part of the community again to help out. What I found was not much had changed, my premier key still worked, everything materially looked and felt the same. It was as if I had never left. I think I had expected it to be 'shinier' in some way. I will say the HDR and Atmos support was probably the biggest thing I noticed, I don't doubt that was a big effort. I'm unsure if my media presentation eye has been dumbed down by commercial apps or emby has improved - I can't tell but I've applied minimal customisation to my media views, where as I remember back in the day I had a certain amount of tinkering to get it looking right. Now to the forum, I would have expected a lot more participation. I feel outside the regular names I see participating there is very little going on, maybe it's the limited number of sub-forums I look at!? It makes me question how active the user base is now, or how has it changed? Also the people requesting help has me questioning my sanity sometimes, like it takes a certain amount of knowledge and experience to even know about emby, nevermind go to the trouble of installing it and getting it half way there. Sometimes I get the feeling people are data mining, that their issues are fake and they are just obtaining information about what emby is being used for. Just to ask the question you've managed to install emby on some hardware and are using the internet to register with a forum, the last thing I expect is to explain how to operate a mouse.... When stuff doesn't make sense it leads me to think there's something else going on, or maybe I'm just paranoid!! Anyway, that's my mini-rant over with, would be interested in what others think.

I suspect that my database is corrupt and would like to download the statistics manually. But first, I would like to know if I can add the statistics myself when I reinstall Emby from scratch? -such as which content has been viewed Additionally, I am curious what other data I can manually download/add to the new database --- I know that your advice is to download the backup plugin and run it as described, but then the error in the database is backed up immediately as well.

Resurrecting this necrothread again for a fresh perspective.. So I understand that there is (still) no metadata provider offering a crossover database to parse the interweaved storylines automatically. And I also understand that as it stands it is still a huge kludgy pain in the ass to implement manually.. And I will be the first to admit I am a total weenie when it comes to coding and databases, and I haven't the slightest clue about Emby's database, so bear with me with the syntax and what is realistically possible and whatnot. I just had this brainwave and I want to see what the developers who actually know what they're doing think. But what if... Each episode's database entry simply contains two special fields exposed to the admin in the metadata manager... Such as isCrossover=(true/false) and playNext=(db id of the next episode)? The way it works now must know this information for "Next Up", so why can't it work in an if/then/else flow, where if the crossover flag is true and the crossover series is present, then it jumps to the specified episode in the connected series, then jumps back, else it just continues on? I guess it might get a little confusing when three or more series are involved (such as the CSI Trilogy), maybe if it could keep track of the "referring series", so that if you were for example watching CSI NY and S06E06 ended, it would jump to Miami S08E07, then jump back to NY S06E07, jump to CSI S10E07.... But it would have to remember that you were originally watching CSI NY and bring you back to NY S06E08 when CSI S10E07 finishes, and this flow would have to persist in a "Continue Watching" scenario where playback was stopped during a crossover jump. If the flags are not set then the episode flow continues as normal (or if they are set and the flow is invalid - series/episode doesn't exist - it just fails back to the next episode as normal). The reason fail back is important has to do with the future. I mean, it would still involve a lot of manual work for those who want to curate their collections properly (at first), but I think if you could implement and become the "industry standard" for something like this, Jellyfin and Plex will pick it up too. And the end hope is that it will lead to the development of a standard crossover metadata database that can be scraped and we can finally be free from this manual nonsense. I haven't seen anything like this suggested before, only using workarounds involving playlists and specials, and developers just saying there isn't a crossover database to scrape from so we can't do anything... I think having the framework in place to actually do it manually at the server level - building for automation down the road - would jumpstart the demand and contributions to said automation. And of course since this is something E-V-E-R-Y-B-O-D-Y has been shouting from the rooftops for for the better part of a decade, being the first to have what the customer craves will drive business to you. "If you build it, they will come"? What do you think?

That's likely Spotlight feature only (which naturally you don't get with 4.9 stable), otherwise it behaves as it always has. -

Where did you get that info from? I'm using latest beta with 4.9.3.0 stable with no issues. -
The beta version of the ATV app may not be compatible with the current Stable Emby server release. From v2.1.38 of the ATV app, it requires Emby server version of v4.10.0.4 as a minimum. The latest Stable version of the ATV app is v2.1.23.

I’ll give this beta version a try. However, sending logs from within the app won’t work once the bug occurs—the app gets stuck on the loading screen. If you can provide the location of the log files, I can retrieve them manually using the Xplore file manager. -

Playback correction with AV1 ends in freezed video
hbbs replied to hbbs's topic in Android TV / Fire TV
Hi everyone. I want to revisit this thread with something much more substantial than "still broken." After almost 4 years of testing every beta as requested by @ebrand @Luke, I finally have a complete root cause analysis — and proof that the correct behavior is achievable, because I accidentally stumbled onto it myself. A few nights ago I was testing Plex on my Roku TV in my living room and noticed something unexpected: an AV1 + Opus 5.1 file was playing with the video preserved in AV1 and the audio correctly transcoded to AC3 5.1 — exactly the behavior I had been asking Emby to implement for over the years. The Roku TV has no external receiver, so Plex correctly identified that Opus multichannel wasn't passable to the TV's audio system and transcoded only the audio, leaving the video untouched. I immediately went to test my other devices — NVIDIA Shield, Xiaomi Mi TV Stick 4K, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd gen — and the behavior was different on all of them. That inconsistency made me curious. Why did it work on the Roku TV and not on the others devices? I decided to dig into the server logs from both scenarios and compare them. I asked for help analysing the logs to Claude AI and what came out of that analysis is what I'm sharing here today. --- **Environment** - Emby Server: 4.10.0.8 beta (issue present since at least 4.8.x — December 2022) - Server hardware: NVIDIA Shield TV (2015), Android 11 - Clients affected: Xiaomi Mi TV Stick 4K, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd gen (Emby for Android TV beta 2.1.44g) - Source files tested: "Arrival (2006)" and "10 Things I Hate About You (1999)" — both AV1 video + Opus 5.1 audio in MKV - Audio output chain: Android TV → TV optical/SPDIF out → AV receiver (AC3/DTS passthrough only, no HDMI audio in) --- **The symptom (known)** When playing an AV1 + Opus 5.1 file on a device whose audio output is limited to SPDIF/optical, triggering Playback Correction to transcode Opus → AC3 causes the video to freeze on the last frame while audio continues normally. --- **Root cause — confirmed from Emby FFmpeg logs** Emby correctly identifies that only audio transcoding is needed and generates the following plan: ``` Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy) ← AV1 stream-copied Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (opus (native) -> ac3 (native)) ← audio transcoded ``` The output container Emby uses is MPEG-TS segments for HLS (`-f segment -segment_format mpegts`). FFmpeg itself immediately issues this warning upon muxing: ``` [mpegts @ 0x22e9a2c4d0] Stream 0, codec av1, is muxed as a private data stream and may not be recognized upon reading. ``` **This is the precise cause of the freeze.** AV1 is not standardized in MPEG-TS. When the client receives the `.ts` HLS segments, the AV1 stream is flagged as an unknown private data stream and cannot be decoded. The AC3 audio — which TS handles correctly — plays fine. The video freezes on the last frame rendered before the transcode session began. The client request confirms the segment container: ``` SegmentContainer=ts ``` Note also that Emby is bundling **FFmpeg 5.1-emby_2023_06_25_p4** — a June 2023 custom build. Two major FFmpeg versions (6.x and 7.x) have since been released, both with significant AV1 and HLS improvements. --- **Proof that the correct behavior is achievable — from Plex logs on the same server** This is where it gets interesting. Running Plex Media Server on the same NVIDIA Shield, serving the exact same files, the Roku TV client triggers a transcode session that works perfectly: AV1 stream-copied, Opus transcoded to AC3 5.1, video plays without freezing. Here is the actual FFmpeg command Plex generates for the Roku TV client: ``` -codec:0 copy -filter_complex "[0:1] aresample=async=1:ochl='5.1':rematrix_maxval=0.000000dB:osr=48000[0]" -codec:1 ac3 -b:1 640k -f segment -segment_format matroska ``` The difference is one parameter: **`-segment_format matroska`** instead of **`-segment_format mpegts`**. AV1 is fully supported and standardized in the Matroska (MKV) container. Plex uses MKV segments, the AV1 stream copies cleanly, the audio transcodes to AC3 5.1, and everything works. No freeze. No warnings. The Plex log also confirms the profile used: ``` TranscodeUniversalRequest: using augmented profile Roku-7.x ``` The Roku-7.x profile correctly does not list Opus as a supported audio codec, which is why Plex decides to transcode it. The Xiaomi and Fire TV profiles do list Opus as supported, which is why Plex direct plays on those devices — leaving the SPDIF chain stuck with stereo, same as Emby's default behavior. --- **The fix** When the source video codec is AV1 and the transcoding plan is audio-only (video stream-copy), Emby must switch the HLS segment container from MPEG-TS to either: 1. **Matroska segments** (`-segment_format matroska`) — proven working by Plex on the same hardware with the same files, or 2. **Fragmented MP4/CMAF** (`-segment_format fmp4`) — also AV1-compatible and HLS-spec compliant This isn't theory—it's working right now. Plex handles it on the same setup. I'm honestly thrilled I found this... with this info, maybe Emby could get there too? I'd love to help test it. --- **Why this matters** AV1 + Opus is now the dominant encoding combination in scene releases and is increasingly common in personal libraries. Users with older AV receivers limited to SPDIF/optical — a very large installed base worldwide — have had no working path to multichannel audio on AV1 content in Emby for over two years. This will only grow in scope. --- **Attachments** - Emby FFmpeg transcode log (showing the mpegts warning) - Emby server log I am happy to provide any additional testing or logs. I have been patiently testing every beta since December 2022 and will continue to do so. Regards, H. embyserver (1).txt ffmpeg-remux-05dd082b-aa58-4f30-8cb8-f9ea957951c9_1.txt -

As @ebralready stated: I've also never encountered that - nor saw it reported - and I do roam the forums quite a bit, so it might not be as easily reproducible. I have zero issues with either Remembering last user (which is how I always have AndroidTV set up) or Automatically logging as this user (just tested). What are your current sever and app versions?
