I’d like to request a dedicated image type for the new Spotlight section on the Emby home page. At the moment, Spotlight uses the existing fanart/background image for an item. In many cases that works, but the best image for a normal background is not necessarily the best image for a large Spotlight banner. It would be useful if Emby supported a separate Spotlight image, for example: spotlight.jpg spotlight.png If a Spotlight image exists, Emby would use it for that item in the Spotlight section. If one does not exist, Emby could simply fall back to the current fanart/background image. This would allow users to choose a different image that they feel is better suited for how the item appears in Spotlight, while leaving the existing background artwork unchanged. Mock Up Below: Emby's backend services would send request to image providers for background/fanart images.

Yeah that would be nice, but I was just responding to twofacetoo and Luke. What your suggesting is a much bigger request, I think. I was reading current request as: play trailer as background instead of fanart. I was just pointing out that is already possible. I like your idea for sure though.

Not sure that would constitute a library change. The next time you experience this, look at the server log during the exact period of time between when you opened the item and when you went back and the screen re-set. Look for any library changes.

You are right. That is the problem with the plugin that automates the fetching of movie/tv-show backdrops. It is occasionally, quite often, a trailer that someone contributes. When it is supposed to be BluRay/DVD menus and such. Not just movie/tv-show trailers. But I can see the point of having trailers there too. I can see why people submit those. They must want the same as others in here. If it is a trailer that were to auto-play, wouldn't you want to see it in a corner unobscured? Wouldn't that be better? Having it show fullscreen beneath a details view is making it harder for you to enjoy the trailer. If it is just background noise related to the content you are about to play and you just want to hear/see something related that moves to make it more impressive to friends then I get that too. But I would prefer trailers to play unobscured so you can watch them without having to see around things.

If you have local trailers all you would need to do is create backdrops folder and drop copy of your trailer into it. Then it would play in the background of detail page just like any other video in that folder. Or am I wrong? Could be cool if there was option to play or not play trailers by default, but seems like easy work around. Only down side is that you would have to have two copies of trailer video in each movie/TV show folder.

On Emby Windows playback.start, playback.pause, playback.stop events are triggering correctly but playback.unpause never triggers. On Android TV/Google TV as well as the web UI, the events trigger correctly. I have enabled all playback events and I don't have any filtering by device set in the notification. In the log file I can see entries such as: 2026-09-24 15:02:54.477 Info SessionManager: Playback progress (Pause) reported by app Emby Windows 2.317.2.0 ... But for Emby Windows, there are no corresponding entries for Unpause.

I had a thought, I change/update actor images pretty often while watching media. Could that be it?

Hi, Just had some media added to Emby that has an exorbitant amount of people listed under cast. 750+ were added to one item. My Emby server also got hung around this time. I'm worried that future metadata refreshes might also be a problem with this. I imagine adding that many to the DB at once could have choked the I/O. Once they're in the database, should I care about this? Or is it worthwhile for me to edit metadata and lock the item? Would this actually clean up the db, or would the people added still exist there? Thanks for any advice.

Okay, that's not normal Android operation but I don't know why the TV app would behave any differently than any other app in that case. Unless, you sideloaded the TV app and then also set it as your "Debug" app on the device - perhaps that would be an exception to that behavior. I don't know because I've never used it since no normal user would ever have this. I guess I'd need to see an example of why you think the TV app is doing anything differently.

I've noticed since the most recent server update that playback has started freezing when a recording of live tv comes to a detected commercial break and Comskipper tries to skip it. I thought it was an issue when the plugin, but when I try to move the playhead past the commercial break manually, it freezes as well and won't restart the video. I believe the two issues are related. This is happening in the web player. I haven't tried it on other platforms.

HI, habe den Fehler gefunden. Emby läuft als Docker auf UnRaid, da war der Pfad nicht korrekt. Nun ist alles korrigiert, unbd die Serie auch direkt gefunden! Hat sich also erledigt.

Whenever a new version is uploaded, the back end server generates a checksum on it and stores it. When the server downloads any plugin, it also generates a checksum and compares to the one created at upload. This is an old-time trick to catch items corrupted during transfer. Perhaps the checksum operation failed for some reason although, in however many years its been, we've never had that happen.

Doesn't have to be a removed item. Something could also be added or changed in some other way. As I said, this is just a theory but it gives you an avenue to investigate. Look for any library change in the server log when this happens.
