Server connects but displays no media files
twofacetoo replied to twofacetoo's topic in General/Windows
I initially had the server on my desktop PC, where everything worked fine. Then I migrated the files over to a laptop I got from a relative, with the intent of using it exclusively to run the Emby server. I set it up with the server software, and it did in fact work at first. I had a few issues with it, one of which I posted about before which was fixed entirely by deleting the library sectors and re-adding them, but since then I've had this recurring issue where the files just aren't read at all. To test it as I said in the quoted comment, I added a few video-files to my desktop computer and hooked the server into them, they showed on the TV almost immediately. Would the server running on multiple machines cause some kind of conflict like this? Because again, it HAS worked on the laptop before at times, even when my desktop PC was running, it's just never been specific.- 22 replies

Sorry, my bad. The above confuses me a bit. Exactly how did you do this? You've only installed the server on one machine, correct?

The ability to create a collection that's not global only Library specific
Fin7645 replied to Fin7645's topic in Feature Requests
Ah sorry I was thinking of something else, I want like to be able to create a collection that is decade based or any ffilter really so I don't have to create them by hand I can just put a smart filter that creates a collection based on filters like year or genre like I can in Plex. -

SMB has a huge overhead, something that can be proven by simply trying to get full speed over a 10Gbe network. Admittedly not really a problem when just watching a movie over it but worth noting anyway.

Hi. Can you please show us a screen shot of your home screen from Emby on the laptop and then also Emby on another device that has the issue?

The ability to create a collection that's not global only Library specific
ebr replied to Fin7645's topic in Feature Requests
Hi. I'm afraid I'm not following. A collection you create only has the items that you put in it... -
Yes, that's what it would be meant for. To be clear, this is not under active development right now but just in our plans.

@pwhodges The actual benefit is that the media playback path becomes independent of Emby's HTTP streaming path. With Direct File Access, Emby tells the player where the original file is and the player opens that file directly from the SMB share. From that point on, the player controls access to the media itself — including reading, seeking and buffering — rather than receiving the media through Emby Server over HTTP. That's not a picture-quality benefit, and I'm not claiming that it is. The bits don't magically become better because they travelled over SMB. The benefit is that I can use a player and its native file-access implementation directly against my media storage while still using Emby for the library, metadata and playback management. Kodi is a very good practical example. I can point Kodi directly at the same SMB files and play them completely independently of Emby. With EmbyCon and Direct File Access, I get that same playback path while retaining the Emby library around it. So yes, I prefer it — because it gives me that separation and control, not simply because I happen to like the letters SMB better than HTTP. Whether that benefit is important enough to justify maintaining the feature in Emby's Android client is a different question. Eric can reasonably say that it isn't worth the development effort for the number of users who want it. But that's different from saying there is no actual benefit.

But what is the actual benefit? The only specific "benefit" you have specified is that you prefer it. Paul

Have set up PaddleOCR docker on my gaming PC. So my 4090 can rip through my 80K+ episodes, seems to be working well so far! 30hr ETA rather than 100s-1000s of hours via Tesseract on my unraid server. Issues with anime like Boruto and others, but I guess that's pretty normal? -
Hi, just asking out of curiosity. Is this behavior of the navigation bar on mobile phones intentional? It only occurs when the keyboard is active. It would be nice if the bar could be turned off. Android Version 3.5.55

Ok I have 8 tvs in total in my home, 2 in my caravan usually about 4 are on at the same time, just want hardware that will run upto 10 tvs without freezing or lagging I use live tv from m3u and hd homerun Series and movies from ip tv supplier on m3u also thinking of upgrading my hardware but no idea which direction to go with the equipment

It sounds like maybe this is a bigger issue and I don't want to cause any problems. Since Roku has dropped support, I may just have to go ahead and do some batch conversions and get everything MP3. Even though it's a bunch of folders, I bet if I find the right utility, it won't be terrible. That will be my plan at this point. Thanks all for your attention on this.

Option to force audio downmix/conversions during playback
visproduction replied to Goros's topic in Feature Requests
Goros, Thanks for those details. Hmm, so another way out would be to make sure all the media content is similar enough, or the same exact audio video, so users always get similar quality and timing for each media. That would take a lot of extra work. Hopefully, your info is useful to help make Emby better. -
Option to force audio downmix/conversions during playback
Goros replied to Goros's topic in Feature Requests
The bigger issue is that HDMI doesn't ever carry AAC anyway - your PC/Server, Nvidia Shield, Roku, etc all convert it to multichannel PCM and send it over the HDMI that way, but TV's - because they don't have the processing power and Arc & TOSLINK don't have the bandwidth - will always turn it into PCM 2.0. Doing what you're suggesting is possible, but then you're dealing with input lag and having to adjust the signal timings for lip sync, which change based on the source and type of container. I used to do this with emby installed on my nvidia shield pro connected to the receiver and then the receiver sends the video to the tv, but you lose a mess of features and ease of use for just having everything on the TV directly. The other reason for buying the Sony Bravia series TV's is the best-in-class built in 4k upscaling (the Cognitive XR processor) that it does on the apps while you're watching - so regardless of if it's emby, netflix, or OTA, the TV upscales without having to do a thing - it's actually more powerful than the Shield TV Pro 2019 and easier to use. Since KODI for emby already HAS the option to force convert to AC3 (which forces the emby server to do the work), there's nothing keeping emby from implementing it in full in their native app, except for not wanting to do the coding. emby already HAS it built in, but it only converts to AC3 if the device emby is installed on does not handle AAC natively - which all TVs have done for over a decade now. The trick is getting a toggle to force it 24/7 every time it sees an AAC container. I'm sure my use case isn't rare, as all tv's turn AAC into pcm 2.0 natively when feeding into a soundbar or receiver, and you know that people are installing emby on TV's instead of on streaming boxes or sticks - if Emby wants people to use their app instead of Kodi or Jellyfin, they really need to cater to those of us who want the audio passed in the best way possible. -

Server connects but displays no media files
twofacetoo replied to twofacetoo's topic in General/Windows
To the server itself? Yes, as in the screenshots in the original post. I can connect to the server, it's definitely the right server, I'm logged in on the same user account, but no media shows on anything except for the laptop, where it's all stored via connected external hard-drives. As said, the only option I have is my playlists, and I can see the playlists I've made, but there's no media actually in them. I can access the server itself, just not the MEDIA that's meant to be accessed through it... unless I'm on the laptop, where the server is hosted. And again, I have confirmed everything is correctly located, I've rescanned the drives for the media files, I can watch them via Emby on the laptop. On the laptop, everything looks to be running fine, but no other device can access the media files via the server.- 22 replies

I just disabled the firewall entirely, since the only thing I actually use the laptop for is hosting my Emby server. Would the ports still need checking in that case?- 22 replies
