Can someone kindly explain the difference between HTTP and SMB streaming. I noticed that my Kodi client has asked and is now streaming over HTTP from the Emby server, whereas previously it used to be on SMB purely.

Is there any performance or security gain using HTTP. I am on Gigabit Ethernet in my home.

Why don't you post in the Kodi section of this forums? No one is checking here for Kodi questions...

The difference - smb: kodi playbacks the file. http: the server playbacks the file and feed to Kodi without modification. Transcoding: the server playbacks the file in a supported format to Kodi.

Usually you use direct stream for remote playback or if you are having trouble accessing your paths from Kodi. You are getting this error because the paths in your emby library section are incorrectly formatted or you have set up with local paths rather than network ones.

For the error, best post your kodi log, this way we can see for sure what the issue is.

Clarification : the kodi section of these forums, not over at the kodi forums
