    Overview: GPU execution

GPU tone mapping uses a supported compute or rendering interface to transform picture data within a media pipeline.

OpenCL, CUDA and Vulkan provide different routes to GPU processing. The useful questions are how pictures reach the operation, which representation it accepts and how its output connects to the next stage. These pages describe those execution paths in the context of tone mapping rather than treating an installed GPU as a complete pipeline.

    • OpenCL tone mapping
OpenCL tone mapping runs a software-defined tone-mapping operation through the OpenCL parallel-computing interface.

    • CUDA tone mapping
CUDA tone mapping executes a tone-mapping implementation on an NVIDIA GPU using CUDA parallel computation.

    • Vulkan tone mapping
Vulkan tone mapping uses GPU shader processing through Vulkan to adapt a picture to the output brightness range.
