    Overview: HDR formats

HDR formats define how an HDR signal and its associated interpretation are carried to a compatible playback path.

HDR10, HLG, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision carry different conventions for signal interpretation and, where applicable, metadata. A useful comparison starts with the actual format and follows it to the receiving player and display. The linked pages provide that format-specific context for playback and fallback questions.

    • HDR10
HDR10 combines ten-bit PQ video, BT.2020 color signaling, and static mastering metadata for HDR delivery.

    • Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG)
Hybrid Log-Gamma is an HDR television system that relates the delivered picture to scene light and adapts it for the viewing display.

    • HDR10+
HDR10+ extends HDR10 with dynamic metadata that can guide how each scene or frame is adapted to a display.

    • Dolby Vision
Dolby Vision combines defined signal arrangements with metadata and profile rules that shape compatible playback.
