    Overview: Extraction and conversion

Subtitle extraction, conversion and OCR perform different changes to the location or representation of timed content.

Extraction obtains a subtitle representation from its surrounding source. Conversion changes its format, while OCR recognizes characters from graphical subtitles. Naming the operation precisely helps establish which timing, styling or textual information is being preserved and which part needs checking in the result.

    • Subtitle extraction
Subtitle extraction recovers a selected subtitle track or service into another representation while preserving the timing and configuration needed to interpret it.

    • Subtitle format conversion
Subtitle format conversion translates timing, content and presentation from one subtitle model into another with explicit choices about what the target can represent.

    • Subtitle OCR
Subtitle OCR recognizes character text from subtitle graphics and combines it with recovered timing and reviewed reading order.
