    Overview: Text rendering and styling

Subtitle rendering turns timed content and presentation instructions into visible text or graphics.

The renderer decides where and how the selected cue appears. For text, character interpretation and font shaping are part of that work; graphics have their own composition path. This area focuses on visible presentation so a valid cue can be distinguished from a correctly rendered one.

    • Subtitle rendering
Subtitle rendering evaluates timed content, shapes or decodes its visual elements, and composes them in the applicable output geometry.

    • Character encoding and scripts
Character encoding and script handling connect stored subtitle bytes to the characters and reading order intended by the text.

    • Fonts and typesetting
Fonts and typesetting translate subtitle characters and styling instructions into positioned, shaped visual text.
