    Overview: Power and thermal behavior

Power and thermal behavior change the execution rate or availability of a server under particular operating states.

A warm component can enter a protective performance state, while system sleep suspends ordinary work until recovery. Those are different explanations for delayed or unavailable media operations. The two pages identify the state and observations needed before a slow interval is attributed to the processor or storage.

    • Thermal throttling
Thermal throttling reduces available execution performance to respect temperature limits, so sustained media work can behave differently from a cold start.

    • Server sleep and wake behavior
System sleep suspends ordinary server execution, and recovery after wake must restore the process's network and storage environment before service is fully available.
