    Overview: Logging

Logging controls determine which diagnostic events are recorded and how long their storage remains available.

A level filter selects detail; rotation and retention bound the surviving history. The two mechanisms therefore affect different parts of an investigation's evidence. These pages explain why a missing event needs context about both the configured logging and the interval still retained.

    • Logging levels
Logging levels select which diagnostic events are recorded, so the available evidence depends on the enabled detail and the component producing it.

    • Log rotation
Log rotation changes the active log or retained segments so diagnostic storage remains bounded, with size and retention controlling available history.
