Overview: Data protection
Data protection combines integrity evidence, retained generations and recovery mechanisms with the failures they are intended to address.
Redundancy can preserve service through defined device failures. Checksums identify byte differences, snapshots retain views, backups provide recoverable copies and a UPS supplies time for power-related completion. Each mechanism has a distinct boundary; this branch connects it to the recovery outcome needed by the server.
Redundancy and pooling
Redundancy and pooling organize physical capacity and reconstruction information under a selected storage layout.File checksums
A file checksum summarizes bytes for comparison with a reference, detecting a change without supplying the missing original content.File system snapshots
A file-system snapshot preserves a point-in-time view within its storage system, often by retaining old blocks that later writes would otherwise replace.Backups and recovery
Backup and recovery preserve media or application state as usable generations for a supported restoration.Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
A UPS supplies temporary power during an interruption, allowing a supported shutdown sequence to complete before its available energy is exhausted.
