Overview: Conversion pipelines
Media conversion connects source decoding, optional processing and output encoding into a working representation.
Conversion is a pipeline with dependencies between its stages. Picture or audio formats must match across those connections, and temporary output must remain available while the player consumes it. This branch separates the operations from their performance and capacity questions, including conversion performed outside a live playback session.
How a transcoding pipeline works
A transcoding pipeline connects resource access, selected stream processing, timestamp handling and output packaging so that a new media representation can be delivered.Pipeline stages
Conversion stages reconstruct, process and encode media through defined input and output relationships.Transcoding performance and capacity
Transcoding performance compares pipeline progress and shared resource demand with the deadlines of active playback.Transcode temporary files
Transcode temporary files hold generated session output whose size, availability and lifecycle differ from both the original media and the client’s playback buffer.Offline media conversion
Offline media conversion prepares another media representation before playback, separating production time from the later session’s delivery deadlines.
