Overview: Routers and remote reachability
Router and intermediary behavior determines how a request reaches the server and what its successive connection legs mean.
Address translation, firewall decisions, VPN routes and reverse proxies act at different points in a request's path. Identifying those points locates which part of a remote path is being observed. Emby Connect adds another server-location relationship within that broader connectivity context.
Address translation and port mapping
Address translation and port mapping relate internal endpoints to the addresses and routes visible elsewhere.Firewalls
A firewall applies traffic policy to packet and connection context, with addresses, ports, interfaces, direction and tracked state contributing to different reachability outcomes.VPN routing
VPN access and routing place media connections within a selected tunnel and its surrounding network paths.Reverse proxy behavior
Reverse proxies forward requests through distinct client-facing and server-facing connections.Emby Connect and server connectivity
Emby Connect associates a central sign-in with permitted server accounts and helps clients locate the selected server, while media connections still use the server’s actual reachable endpoint.
