    Overview: AAC transport formats

AAC transport formats frame and describe coded audio for the container or delivery system carrying it.

AAC identifies the audio coding family; it does not uniquely identify the surrounding stream arrangement. ADTS and LATM package or describe AAC data in different ways, while other containers carry AAC through their own structures. This branch helps distinguish a codec-support question from the framing needed to locate and decode its data.

    • AAC stream packaging
AAC audio can use several framing and container conventions that carry its encoded data and decoder configuration in different ways.

    • Audio Data Transport Stream (ADTS)
ADTS frames AAC audio with repeated headers containing synchronization, frame length, and core decoding information.

    • Low Overhead Audio Transport Multiplex (LATM)
LATM packages MPEG-4 audio and configuration information in a multiplex structure that can be carried over several delivery transports.
