Overview: Media inspection
Media inspection reads the properties and stream structure needed to understand a particular file.
A playback investigation becomes more concrete when it starts with the file's reported tracks, codecs, timing and metadata. Probing tools expose that information at different levels of detail. This group introduces the inspection process and the MediaInfo and ffprobe views used to turn a filename into useful technical evidence.
Media probing
Media probing examines a source to identify its container, streams, and technical properties before playback.Media stream inspection with MediaInfo
MediaInfo presents a file's container, stream formats, and technical tags in a readable report.Media stream inspection with ffprobe
ffprobe inspects containers, streams, chapters, and packet timing without converting the media.
