    Overview: ATSC family

ATSC generations define distinct broadcast and service arrangements that require corresponding receiver support.

ATSC 1.0 and ATSC 3.0 are separate system generations. A familiar channel name does not make their transmission and receiver requirements interchangeable. The two pages describe those arrangements so service availability and tuner capability can be assessed under the appropriate standard.

    • ATSC 1.0
ATSC 1.0 uses the A/53 television system, including its terrestrial 8-VSB transmission and MPEG transport/service relationships, with PSIP providing relevant channel information.

    • ATSC 3.0
ATSC 3.0 is a layered terrestrial television system using a different physical and delivery architecture from ATSC 1.0, with service coding and protection remaining additional compatibility conditions.
