    Overview: Episode ordering

Episode ordering conventions assign positions to programmes according to a particular catalogue or release arrangement.

The same programme can have one position in an aired order and another on a DVD release. Absolute numbering supplies a different sequence again. A match needs the intended convention as well as the numbers, which explains how an apparently valid episode label can identify the wrong content.

    • Understanding episode order
Episode order maps a series arrangement and its season or episode coordinates to the actual episodes represented by media resources.

    • Aired episode order
Aired episode order assigns episode coordinates according to a catalogue’s broadcast or release arrangement for a television series.

    • DVD episode order
DVD episode order describes an episodic release arrangement that can change numbering, grouping or segmentation relative to broadcast order.

    • Absolute episode numbering
Absolute episode numbering assigns series-wide ordinal positions whose relationship to season coordinates depends on a defined episode sequence.
