    Overview: Bluetooth connections

Bluetooth audio uses particular profiles and transport arrangements to connect an audio source with a wireless listening device.

The Bluetooth label alone does not identify the audio route. A2DP and LE Audio belong to different arrangements with their own supported components and capabilities. The fundamentals and profile pages establish what is negotiated before latency or format behavior is attributed to the wireless link.

    • Bluetooth audio
Bluetooth audio uses a negotiated wireless audio profile and codec between a transmitting device and a receiving headset or speaker.

    • Bluetooth A2DP
A2DP defines Bluetooth Classic media-audio distribution with source/sink roles, codec negotiation, and framed audio transport.

    • Bluetooth LE Audio
Bluetooth LE Audio combines LC3 coding, isochronous streams, and audio control profiles to coordinate unicast or broadcast sound.
