Should HDR10 Hardware Tone Mapping work with the DS1019+?

Hi all,

Emby 4.6.4.0 is running on my DS1019+ on Docker...

Transcoding h265 Movies works fine without HDR Tone Mapping.
If i enable Tone Mapping (only with Hardware) it fails and switch to Software Transcoding.

Is that the exprected behaviour for the DS1019+?

Thanks!

best regards
Brudertac

Could you post a ffmpeg file from a 4K tone map please?

Hi could you try 1 or 2 other HDR movies and upload the ffmpeg log for those as well?

Thanks you

That CPU includes Intel HD Graphics 500 which doesn't support VAAPI native tone mapping.

Please install the Emby Diagnostics Plugin and choose Extra-T for VAAPI tone mapping.

Oh, that's a different issue. How/from where did you install Emby?

Thanks

It is an Docker Image from Linuxserver... I think there is a Problem. Currently i setup Emby direct on my Synology (DSM 7) and try that.
I will write here when i have testet this...

Thanks

Yes, please let us know how you make out with a direct install on DSM 7.

Yeah, with Emby Installed directly on DSM7 it works perfect.
I had to use the Emby Diagnostics Plugin and choose Extra-T for VAAPI tone mapping.

Thanks @cayars and @softworkz 😀

@Brudertac Thanks for the feedback!

It's a bit difficult at the moment to take the right actions because we are facing several different issues that are all affecting tone mapping.

  1. VAAPI incorrectly indicates support for native tone mapping for hardware where it isn't (meant to be) supported
    (fails of course)
  2. VAAPI Native Tone Mapping has at least one known bug which causes TM to fail even though it is meant to be supported
    (bug status depends on the Intel driver version)
  3. The alternative TM method - Extra-T (OpenCL) - is working on a wider range of hardware, but getting OpenCL set up correctly is not an easy task.
    Most of our official Linux type packages are including an appropriate OpenCL setup out of the box;
    for containerized targets though, OpenCL is not expected to work at all (in regular cases)

Yeah, without doubt that's the best choice in your case.

Thanks @softworkzfor the detailed insight. I see, not easy to Handle right now. But it is -again- great to see how awesome the Emby Team works. Thanks alot! 👍
