Emby premiere not detected with no Internet connection

Good evening CET !

At first, I hope this is the right place to post this request for help... I have not found it elsewhere but please do not hesitate to redirect me on the same topic if it exists.

So... I do not know how it works in other countries but, here in France, when you change your Internet access provider for another one, it is often complicated. I am without any connection since 1+ week, and it is going to continue for several days.

I have an Emby server running on a Windows laptop... And I am using my Emby Xbox app to watch movies and listen to some music in my TV room. All was working correctly until yesterday, when the Emby app (running on the Xbox) refuses to work because, it says, I have to upgrade to Emby Premiere.

What is disappointing is, of course, that I have owned a perpetual Premiere license. The app allow me to click onto a button to confirm that I have the right stuff, then it explains I need to set it correctly in the admin interface. It does even not consider that something could go wrong on its or Emby server's side.

By the way, it refuses to work anymore and I do not know what to do. As I can navigate through the media files, I guess that the communication between the app and the server is correct. So why doesn't it see that the Premiere license has been configured properly ? (I did not say that but please be sure that it works correctly since several years). I have updated to v4.6.4 but nothing went better. I also tried to watch a movie locally from my laptop and met no issue.

Is there someone who could help me to solve this, please ?

Many thanks by advanced !

Until you can get internet again to check premiere status it likely won't work.  Do you have the ability to use your cell phone as a wifi hotspot for a few minutes?

You could try using a web browser to play back media and maybe, just maybe could cast to the TV or xbox.  I'd give that a try.

Hi, Emby apps do not need a constant internet connection in order to validate Emby Premiere, but they will need it occasionally.

Hello @cayars

Many thanks for your answer. Do you mean that I have to be connected permanently ? As I copied / pasted the key received by e-mail in the settings, Emby server should have a built-in to be able to read it each and every time.

I have upgraded to the latest stable release and I started a movie from the laptop so the server had an access to Internet to check the key (all ofthese using my phone as an access point), if it was really needed. But it still does not work from the Xbox app.

I tried to connect to Emby server from the Xbox Edge but it says there is no network connection (I suppose it also tries to connect to the Internet) then quit and I cannot connect through the LAN.

The day there will be a big issue with Internet, I am sure almost nothing will work anymore in the world !!!

Hello and thanks @Luke,

So I understand the issue does not come from Emby server but the app, am I correct ?

Correct, yes.

Well, that's it. I cannot be both connected to the data and the local WiFi. I swapped to the LAN and could start a movie from my phone.

This is a great news !

So this is the message that is not correct in the app, at least in French, because it refers to something misconfigured on the server side.

I tried to connect to the Wi-Fi from my Xbox but it does not allow to be both connected to a wired and an unwired network, so I will do that tomorrow (it is more than midnight here), just the time for the app to check the Premiere license because it will then not be able to connect to Emby server.

Nothing is simple 😆

Many thanks for your help, @Luke and @cayars!

If I can bump this issue, we had a big storm and power outage today, so servers got rebooted, but Comcast is still out. I'd like to watch the NFL pro bowl that's on right now, but it won't let me play over the air TV.

Really frustrating. I have to use silicon dust app on my phone since Emby android tv app or the desktop browser won't play OTA. None of this requires an Internet connection.

The reason I moved to Emby and bought premiere was because Plex required Internet connections to log in. Disappointed 😞.

Hi.  How long had it been since you used either of those before the outage?

We use the android tv app daily. I noticed on the server management page, at one point, the gold circle indicating a subscription was visible, but after systemctl restart emby-server it disappeared.

Hi, can you please attach the emby server log from when this change occurred?

Thanks.
