Invalid username but server says success

I've tried logging on to the app on my tv and om my phone multiple times but I get the message that the username or password is invalid. When i log in to the server it give the message that i successfully authenticated. 

Is there a trick to getting the app to work?

Apparently i had a super old version of the server like 3.1 that was from the Ubuntu 14.04 repository.  I've downloaded and installed 4.6.2 and this resolved the login issue.
