How would you set the Friends Reunion episode?

Hi,

I want the reunion episode to be identified as the reunion episode and get all the special data for it.

But when I put it under "Season 0", "specials", "Extras" or "Featurettes" folder, it's only identified as a regular featurette, without it's specific data.

Any ideas?

Also, under the "Season 0" folder, I've created a "Friends The Reunion (2021)" folder, so I can put several different releases of that video.

Of course, I start every file name there with a "Friends The Reunion (2021) - " prefix.

But it only shows one of the files.

Sorry, scratch the last post.
The client side does show the different releases.
It's just the server side that doesn't.
But I still can't get the specific data for the show.

TMDB is classifying it as a movie, not a TV show.

So is TVDB.

Guess it's early days.

Yes providers appear to be classifying it as a movies but I will be making it a Special.

Yeah, when putting it under the movies dir it gets all the missing data.
But that's kinda silly.
Hope they change that.
Thanks for the answers.

I'm not sure why they would change it.  It's a movie that followed up a TV Show.

Many others are the same way from Sex in the City to Entourage to Star Trek.

I think it's more of a TV special show, than a movie like Sex in the City and Star Trek, but I guess since it's not part of any specific season, it does somehow answer the definition of a movie.

At the same time I am sure there will be a disc for the Series with this as a Extra.  To me there is nothing to make this a individual item, it belongs to the Series.

Agreed...  I just added it as a Special.  S00E100

But do you get the full data when adding it like that instead of a movie?

No as no provider list it this way to get metadata so you manually apply it.

As happy2play stated above, no.  But for an occasional special like this i'd rather have it listed as a special when viewing Friends than to have it listed as a movie.  Adding the meta manually is painless for one offs.  I used S00E100 as it was a safe guess that there will not be that many specials for that show.  Could go to tvdb and see what the actual last special episode number was and just use the next number.

OK, trying the same, I moved it from the movies folder to an "Extras" folder under the series folder.

Then under edit metadata I added the IMDB page number, which didn't really do much but add a link to the webpage, and I also added the main picture.
Sure, I can add the description and other data fields but it still doesn't look as good as it was when Emby recognized it as a movie.
Am I doing something wrong or is that the best I can get in this situation?

What do you mean?  How is it different?

note this is a dummy file so no media info line or end time.  Only added two lines directly to nfo file, tagline and criticrating.

Movie (I didn't apply all cast above)

movie.thumb.jpg.99c1c8a1b9acf6980776ede390c0d20b.jpg

So it really depends on how much manual editing you wish to do.

**CoverArt does cause image issue though as it is not a episode thumb.

I just created an strm file (and copied the jpg/nfo from the movie) in the TV specials linking to the Movie.

I get the same 'TV' screen as Happy2Play but keep the correct tmdb movie entry - the best of both worlds.

What do you mean?  How is it different?

Well, first I was looking at it on the server app.
On the client app it does look a bit better.
But it only brings a screenshot from the show.
I realize I need to manually add the main picture, the background picture, the cast, and so on.
I understand you built a XML file to do some of this, but where did you take the original file from? where do you place the new one?
Is there any ready guide for it?

The outcome sounds great but I'm not sure I got the process.
Can you please elaborate, or point me to an existing guide?

Create the Friends Reunion 'Movie' as you would do normally in the Movies library.

It should pick up all the correct metadata and look like Happy2Plays screen shots above.

As a 'movie' this is great - but most people are going to want this displayed in their Friends TV area as a special - not as a movie.

Thus you have two options - one is to copy everything in the Friends reunion movie folder to the 'Season 0' TV folder - renaming ALL the files you copy to include s00e100 (or something, it doesn't really matter) - or two,   copy everything as in option one, but create a LINK to the actual video file (via a STRM file) instead of copying it - the jpg, nfo etc need to be copied or you won't get the metadata, cast etc.

Careful, strm doesn't work well when scrubbing videos. Maybe they have updated it since I've used it. Last I tested, scrubbing doesn't work.

Also, emby can't grab media configs like Subtitles/Audio/Bitrate etc

@Ashsnowit

They support both internal and external subs (sitting next to the strm file).

All the codec & media info is loaded on first use.

Good to know about media info loaded on first use. Has the scrubbing issue solved? I don't use strm just because of this fault, just curious.

If by scrubbing you mean scan FF or RWD then I have zero issues with STRM files - they work just like a direct file.

The only feature you don't get with a STRM link is chapters or thumbnails from a BIF file - everything else works normally.

Scrubbing through using the play loading bar, not the 10s FW/RW
