CentWind 4 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 it makes a lot of inconvenience. Emby Excluding Files & Folders : Emby
Carlo 4561 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 I just did a test and can confirm the "dot" folder is being scanned. @Luke
Solution Luke 42079 Posted May 20, 2021 Solution Posted May 20, 2021 It's because it's valid. You'll need to use the features that we have to ignore it, but more options are possible for the future.

This upgrade may cause many problems. I'm not blaming you that you have to ignore some feature. I know it may bring more benefits in the future. However, before doing some update like this, which may cause users' media server in mess, I think it should be told to the user to check. There also many users not using forums, perhaps they will not know what happens to their server. Especially, this feature is still on the official site, letting user to use "." dot. GregMo 24 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Any insight to why this was done? I literally have hundreds of .extras folders that are now going to have to be fixed.

Because we've learned there are legitimate shows and movies that start with a dot so we had to remove it.

Would be nice if it was a setting that could be turned on or off. Of course I really don't know, but I would guess there's a lot more of us out there that are using periods to ignore folders than users that have these shows and movies that start with the period. Just a wild guess tho.
Luke 42079 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Hi, yes, more control over this is certainly possible. Thanks for the feedback.
Luke 42079 Posted May 22, 2021 Posted May 22, 2021 Quote but I would guess there's a lot more of us out there that are using periods to ignore folders than users that have these shows and movies that start with the period In this case that's not a valid argument because there is a difference - you do still have other ways to ignore folders, albeit not your desired way, but there are still ways. If we blindly ignore, then those users do not have any way to get that content imported into their server. 1

Carlo 4561 Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 The shortest KB article https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159118-excluding-files-folders "To exclude a folder from the library scan, simply place a file inside the folder named .ignore This will cause Emby to ignore all subfolders as well."
